Huge painful lump where blood was taken?

I had blood taken today- they took it through my hand didnt succeed but afterwards i noticed this huge lump just below the puncture... maybe just over an inch long pressing it is painful and crunchy also the vein feels raised still... and my veins are aweful to get to. Its slightly bruised. So... what the hell is this? i normally get bruises from blood being taken and tiny lumps where the puncture is but nothing like this, its big and really sticks out on my hand and is painful.. So any ideas on what to do?

I think it's just one of those things that happen sometimes after they take blood. (I'm not really sure why it it's worse some times than others though.)

It will probably go down by itself over a few days. You could try putting an ice pack on it to ease the swelling. (Frozen peas will work.)

Yep, it's likely to be basically a bruise under the skin where blood has leaked out of the vein into the tissues.
Is it getting any bigger or staying the same size? If it's not getting bigger then it should disappear with time.

This happened to me before, but within minutes after the bloods being taken. I panicked. I was told that it was because my blood was rediculously thin (linked to a form of s/h from the day before). The blood didn't gel properly and the blood just formed a golf ball sized pocket under my skin. It went down on it's own pretty quickly.
Just an idea though not sure if it can happen quite a while later.
Call NHS direct if you are worried x
