Section 2 and rights about medication.

Can people on a section 2 refuse meds? If they refuse them, will they be allowed to refuse them?

And what other rights are people on a section 2 denied of?

I think they can force you to take meds because it's a longer section, although I'm not completely sure. Hope you're okay x

I don't know a whole lot about the rights of people who are sectioned, but your staff should be able to provide you with info on rights and I think help you get in touch with an advocate(sp?).

My feeling is that they can't force regular meds on you if you're on section 2, but it's likely, especially as I've read you've been struggling so much, that if you refuse they'll simply put you straight on a section 3, where they can make you take meds.

'Treatment, such as medication, can be given against the person’s wishes under Section 2 assessment orders, as observation of response to treatment constitutes part of the assessment process.'

Though I have yet to be sectioned (though I have come close a couple of times), I thought that being under either section 2 or 3, meant that the psychs could inflict any treatment they thought necessary? That would mean if you refused any medication, they could make you take it by various methods?

Yes they can, i refused my meds completly and they gave it me via injection.
As for other rights i don't think you can vote while on a section 2 xx

What Mind says. Also a bunch of useful links.

I was able to vote when I was under section 2, so I'm not too sure about that one. Maybe I was just lucky :S

Thank you all. I suppose I have to take the Mind Control pills after all.

You have the right to voice your opinions on the medication you take and, within reason, the right to refuse them. Obviously if you're a danger to yourself or others while not taking them then you will not be able to refuse. If it's a choice between medications you should be able to have input. Speak to your care co-ordinator about it. From what I've seen it seems to be individual. I saw people under section able to discuss their meds and change the doses to levels everyone was comfortable with, but others were not allowed any say at all.
