Are mods paid?

I was just curious.......or is it purely a volunteer thing?

Cazki 01-06-2011 12:17 AM

No they dont get paid, it is on a volunteer basis.

squirrelspit 01-06-2011 12:21 AM

... you can pay me if you want!!!!!

i think if we got paid for it, we wouldnt all be so busy working and university-ing and things.

griddlebone 01-06-2011 12:35 AM

As I understand it, our mods are warmed by the satisfaction they feel at a job well done, and bathed in the love of the community - how could any monetary recognition measure up against such powerful intagible rewards? :)

I am open to the concept of being paid... All cheques can be mailed to me at this address:

i bet they wish!

i dont think id ever be brave enough to be a mod.Sure i dont always agree with their decisions [and some by quite some way lol as we are all different!] but boy i often feel they work in such hard circumstances so much of the time!

i hope they do feel they get some rewards though even if they cant quite afford to buy their next big house and sports car!

Good question though OP.And i think the answer is one we should all [very much including me] remember and remind ourselves of from time to time.

We are lucky to have mods [even if we dont always agree with them we probably do need them!] and they dont get any financial reward and give up time freely and voluntarily.

Thanks mods!

Lol. Yeah, I think it'd be rewarding to be a mod.....Do you guys like, apply or something? Do you put it on your resume as volunteer work? I don't know why I am so curious about this....lol.

I've used it on my CV. I haven't said explicitly what it is, but said that I've worked on a mental health website and forum with around 6000 active members; that I've done some project management, crisis handling and diplomacy (which is all truthful!).

And yeah, Andy covered the rest of the Q.

It was hard and hugely challenging work, but I really enjoyed being a mod. Mainly because I had power. Mwahaha.

It's a difficult thing to put on your resume because obviously it's an association with a self-harm site... not a natural immediate seller to employers, I shouldn't think! If you guarded confidentiality then you could word it appropriately, I would assume, but if they asked questions on it you'd have to say. So, the short response to that question is no, I don't think many of the mods would put it on their CV due to all the connotations with self-harm etc. etc.

Edit: (Jo posted at the same time and worded it better than I did!) I think if you put it in that way, stressing all the positives then it would look better!
