Hi Vicky.

Well done on trying to stop.
Have you tried using distractions when you feel you need to hurt yourself? There's a great distractions list here: http://www.recoveryourlife.com/index.php?categoryid=60
Have a look, and try some. Differentthings work for different people, you might find that one thing works really well, and something else makes no difference at all. Some that worked for me are calling a friend and chatting for a while, watching a funny movie, burning candles, and having a warm bath. If you get the relief from actually seeing the blood, some people use visual methods, like drawing on yourself with a red marker/paint. Have a look at the link.

Can you list some of the things that trigger you? If you can't think of any specific things at the moment, try keeping a journal. Whenever you feel the urge to SI, get out your journal and write down what's happening at the time, how exactly you're feeling at that moment (sad, worried, angry and so on), and anything else you might want to jot down. Then, after you have a few entries in your journal, read over it and see if there's any patterns. For example you might find that you usually SI when someone made you irritated, or when you're worried about something.

Then, when you've identified your triggers, try to do things to either avoid situations that make you feel like that, or when you're already feeling like that, use distractions.

Hope that helped.
Feel free to PM me.

Anna
