Not sure if this is the right place, but need SI advice...

No, don't worry, not advice on how to hurt myself. I'm quite proficient at that.

I really, really want to stop. But whenever I read something talking about how to stop, they say you should get rid of whatever you use to hurt yourself. The problem is, I usually hit/bite/scratch myself (used to cut a lot, but my mom noticed and started giving me annoyed looks whenever she noticed the scars). So what do I do? Or does anyone have any ideas?

I'm scared of going back into therapy cause they kept threatening to put me in the hospital (for other reasons) and I definitely don't want my mom to get mad at me for that again... She has enough to deal with.

i know what you mean.... skin picking and stuff isn't particularly uncommon....

if you tend to scratch yourself at night, it can be helpful to wear gloves to bed. this also can help if you pull your hair. generally having something in your hands to play with, like silly putty, or a moldable art eraser, or stressball can help you keep your hands busy and give you something else to take out the feeling on. for biting, chewing gum or sucking on a hard candy can be helpful. again the idea being that you can't do both things at once.

for hitting, i think that working on the same sort of things that help you resist cutting will help, because its the same idea where you need to learn to respond to the situation in a different way that isn't harmful. so distractions and other coping skills will help with this (along with the other stuff)

But chewing on gum or eating candy is calories... that would make me more stressed and pissed off... I'd rather avoid consuming anything unnecessary or unhealthy.

I'll try to keep a bouncy ball nearby though. Maybe just playing with it will help. <3

i have cut, scratched bit and hit in my time.
giving up is hard, theres going to be slip ups some times but slip ups arent the end. and you can do it :)

stress balls, or anything like that you can use to occupy yours hands is good. the squeesing action helps me a buit as well. sometimes i draw where i want ot hurt myself on paper then scrunch and tear it it up. rather than me. helps get the urge out.

thats all i got right now.
tho cutting your nails helps scratching be less bad.
hope it helps a bit,
Jen x

gum has next to no calories in it, particularly if you get the no sugar kind... i guess you could try a water bottle with a straw, drinking from a straw can be calming

Thank you so much for the replies <3

Take up boxing or a martial art.
Or buy a punchbag, punch a pillow etc.

Colouring in/writing/drawing.

And other people have mentioned a stress ball, or silly putty, but blu-tac is basically the same and easy to have on you all the time to play with. (I make shapes, animals out of it!)
