I have auditory hallucinations sometimes when I smoke. I've been diagnosed with BPD/depression/anxiety but I don't know if there's a link between the hallucinations and my illnesses. If you're on any meds, this might be a side effect of them. I know that alcohol has had a different effect on my body since I started taking meds. Maybe it's the same for weed.

DOn'r mean to stat the obvious, as im sure you're aware weed can cause mental health problems such as paranoia, if you don't want these symptons which sound quite bad, is the weed really worth it ?
|
i'm the same, when i smoke-which is barely ever now- it exaggerates my symptoms severly, the last time i smoked i ended up going to the emergency room it got so bad
i think maybe it would be a good idea if you try and stop altogther? why is it that u smoke to begin with when u know whats going to happen? do u feel this is an individual problem u need help with? xoxo kaye |
I used to smoke weed until it started causing hallucinations.
As others have said, perhaps it's not such a good idea if you are mentally ill to be using a drug which can make things worse. It can trigger full-blown psychosis in vulnerable individuals which, from experience, is extremely unpleasant and frightening. Please take care love |
Hey all,
thanks for the replies. i *never* get stoned anymore, and have never been much of a smoker anyway, was just curious about other people's experiences... got a bit accidentally stoned a couple of weeks ago and triggered it all again, so was thinking about it but it's not a usual occurence. i know underlying problems can be exacerbated by weed and it's best for me to just steer clear really. i find it pretty easy to say no to weed. alcohol, on the other hand... xx |
marijuana induced psychosis
I have met a couple people who have been completely destroyed by drugs. The most brilliant minds reduced to vegetable zombie status from marijuana use. Apart from drug interactions between psychiatric meds and cannabis, there is the interaction between the drug and your unique brain chemistry. There is no way to guarantee what strain of the marijuana you are using in terms of how much TCH is present/ potency or if it was cut/ mixed with other drugs or toxins.
The "high" is outweighed by the bad things that happen when you use, after you use and the long standing affects that you are not always aware of. Why do you use? What do you think you get from using? Do you really think that the people that you use with are looking out for your best interests? I lost friends and family having to choose to stay away from people who got high recreationally. In my opinion, it is not cool and it is especially dangerous to someone with a predisposition to mental illness. It is not only a gateway drug but it masks reality and doesn't assist you in either living your life, coping appropriately or truly feeling better/ good. It is a delusion and and escape but makes reality that much harder and in the end only hurts you and those you love worse. Ask for help to quit or at least communicate your usage with your health professional. http://priory.com/psych/cannabis.htm (1) Apathy and sedation (2) Disinhibition (3) Psychomotor retardation (4) Impaired attention (5) Impaired judgement (6) Interference with personal functioning. Also, have found it makes me have weird thoughts that almost feel like memories- and if that's going to happen to me, I'd rather it happened on my own terms. Really just posted to see if anyone else had experienced things like that, as it doesn't happen to anybody else I know so I wondered if it was related to mental health problems (which in retrospect seems a little obvious!) Xx |
Sorry my drug is "caffiene" and I realise I could have tempered my tone.... I just feel strongly about smoking from my experiences etc.
|
:) no worries, no offence taken or anything like that!xx

Ppl seem to consider pot 'harmless', as it *may* be to a mentally well person, but to anyone with a predisposition to psychosis/hallucinations/etc it can be a very scary, and unchangeable, 'trigger', for lack of a better word. |
Not quite answering your question but my uncle has schizophrenia and drug use (particularly cannabis) were (I believe) a large factor in its development. Obviously I know schizophrenia has a genetic basis, can't be *caused* by drugs etc. But I do feel that it was perhaps the thing that "triggered off", if you like, his schizophrenia, especially hallucinations and paranoia and so on.
Part of the reason I have never touched the stuff. |
For the time being I have liked weed. However I did notice, at the same time feeling quite good, on a happy goofy boat. Then sick to my stomach later. but lol, people lol. I must say prozach is worse #Justmyopinion and crack I never would touch that **** with a 1000 foot pool, people on crack practically are damaged for a long time even after recovery sad but thats the facts. Their eyes are red they look stonned I don't understand why some people enjoy feeling that way it looks like it hurts.

I have only smoked weed a few times.. well I can count the times on both hands :)
But when I smoked it a few times a week I was worried about the effects it had as i found things , with my depression, anxiety etc was harder after i had smoked. So I hardly ever smoke now. |
I've never smoked weed, but find that alcohol and caffeine can have a real impact on my mental and physical state so try to limit both.
|
I dont find weed causes an acute negative response, yea it may make my voices appear more but not necessarily bad voices just random ones that talk a bit. But I am unsure about the ongoing effects on me. X

I find it causes me to think everything is funnyish, I could throw Jelly beans into the air and laugh about certain hats anger me when they really don't, find every thing amazing funny, and beautiful amazing on weed lol it more goofyness then negitiveness, people think it negtivty. I wandered onto an image disorder site high calling myself negitive creep because i found it funny to float into the room and make such an odd sn, on computers people can't detect voice tones.e . as I say it in a goofy tone. lol :P no differn't then your average goofy drunk, then theirs mad drunks. On the other hand Im truely sorry if I offended any one because thats never my intentions. I meet a guy who is high on mary j 24/7 litterly, if I go downtown sometimes I see him smilling very very happy and tripping over his feet only to latch onto some random person top and fall laughing.
