Meds making me worse?
 

The GP has prescribed me citalopram becuase they think i am depressed. But i think its making me worse. I don't they are helping at all. My anxiety level is already high and it keeps shooting up now. I still feel really low but now its puntuated with random highs that are now frequent not just random.
Gah. Help?

How long have you been on the citalopram? SSRIs can make you feel worse before you feel better at first. Perhaps it's worth making another appointment with the GP who prescribed the meds?

ive been on them for about 3 months. i have another appointment with the GP next week.
They just don't seem to be doing me any good.

The doctor will most likely put the dosage up or switch you to different meds and hopefully you'll start to feel better then :). Some meds work for others and some don't, luckily citalopram works for me :D All the best x

I came off citalopram because I was having really bad mood swings whilst on it. In retrospect I think it was a bad drug for me - I was getting more agitated episodes on it and it didn't help the depression. I'm more stable without it.

So yes I believe this can happen - and you need to talk to your doctor about coming off it. Don't stop it suddenly though as that could make things worse.

I am also on citalopram, and have found that it increases my anxiety and dissociation episodes. I would suggest switching drugs because when they up the dose it just gets worse. definately tell your doctor how it's been making you feel.
