Withdrawal Symptoms
I'm an advocate for taking my medication regularly, I mean, I very rarely miss a day, but due to health problems and being snowed in :mad: I'm unable to reach my Doctor. Now, I am on an anti-depressant called Sertraline (Zoloft, Lustral), which is a Selective Seratonin ReUptake Inhibitor (for those of us who pay attention). Has anyone else on this medication had the following side effects? These are common-place in all withdrawal from anti-depressants: Anger, Night Terrors, Cold Sweats, Insomnia, Increased Emotional Instability, Migraines (Headaches). These are not: "Electric Shock Sensation", Joint Pain, Rapid Rise and Fall in Temperature (Feeling incredibly warm, then suddenly freezing cold and vice versa), Minor Hallucinations (Shadows and movement out the corner of your eye), Increased Appetite. There's another side affect...it's almost like dizziness, but it's not. Occasionally, your head will go "whooosh!" that's the only way I can describe it, it's a floaty feeling, synonymous with being intoxicated/stoned. When you turn your head right/left, you feel like you will go flying in that direction, almost as if you are in some sort of catapult. I'm not really sure where I was going with this...but maybe it'll be useful to someone!! |
when i was on sertraline i became very restless, my sh became alot worse, my dreams were odd, my tongue would be twitchy, i became numb and i lost alot of weight... ssri's never seem to agree with me though... the locum thinks it was because i wasn't on some sort of mood stabilising drug aswell as the ssri....
i'm now on an snri and anti-psychotic...seems to be going ok so far |
I came off my sertraline abruptly (just stopped it) after 8 months or so (I was on 150mg) and that 'woosh' sensation you describe is something that happened to me, I felt like there was this thing that went through me, normally in my head and it felt weird when I was walking. I have no idea how to describe it as it was really odd, just like a wave of something went through me, but on the insides. It really was horrible!

@Dannie, I felt like that on my past anti-depressants, Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors, they never agree with me :/
@Flames, thanks God someone else knows what I'm talking about! Yes, I'm back on them now, they're the best I've been on in nearly 6years! |
I came off sertraline pretty quickly around Christmas, and had slight insomnia too. I suffered with sweats as well.

Yes. I have had hideous withdrawals from SSRIs, the whoosh feeling also.

that has got to be the best way to describe that feeling...the whooosh!!! I never really knew how to describe it before. I've been through so many withdraw symptoms from stopping meds even with my doctors knowing. Not very fun.

Being on sertraline at 15 I felt constantly tired, dizzy, numbed emotions and had stomach cramps. I took myself off them one day and it felt as though the sun had come and and I started living again...no adverse effects!

Wow, see, Sertraline has the total opposite effect with me.
without it it's like i'm living underground. when i do take it the sun comes out! I was on Prozac at 15 and it was the worst time of my life. |
I came off Sertraline on friday because of the horrible side effects... weird vivid dreams, restlessness, and becoming hyperactive and unable to sit still.
Worst thing about coming off of sertraline is the nausea and sickness feeling you can get, it's horrible and annoying and really reduced my appetite. But it's mostly out of my system now and I feel much better for it :-) Could only stand a week and a bit on it. |
Most SSRIs have had this affect on me.
Venlafaxine (SSNRI) does as well if I miss a dose - it floors me, I take it as it actually does something, but missing a dose is awful. Roiben x |
