I don't know what this is... dissociation?

When I'm particularly anxious, nervous or low, I feel like there's a pane of glass in front of my face. I drift in and out of my daydreams and sometimes feel like I'm floating (almost in a relaxing way). Other times, I find that however much I want to speak and however much I could speak, I can't bring myself to speak. It's not often I get all these feelings at once, and it only really happens when I'm in public situations, like in a classroom.

Does this sound like it could be a form of disassociation? It's not like I become completely detached from what's going on, but I definitely feel a little bit 'spacey'. I also go into daydreams often. I'll be staring into space and someone will come and ask me if I'm ok, and I have no clue I'm doing it really.

I've been on fluoxetine 20mg a day since january 2010. I suppose it could be a side effect.

I am not sure if it's a side-effect (I left my book at home and I'm not at home), but it could be a reaction to stress

Can you tell us some more about the anxiety?

My official diagnosis is hypochondriasis (aka hypochondria, health anxiety) which can take many different forms, but in my case I have a pretty much constant fear that I'm seriously ill. I interpret normal bodily functions and feelings as 'symptoms' of something serious. I've had CBT for this and for the most part it worked, but every now and again I get minor bouts of anxiety and particularly at the moment because obviously I don't have school to distract me.

But I also have low self confidence and am not a particularly 'social' person. Well, I am when I want to be, but it takes me along time to trust people and because I've recently lost all my friends because of my illness (long long long looooong story) I tend to get anxious and angry when I see them, or when I'm forced into uncomfortable social situations. I also get extremely anxious if I'm going into an unknown situation.

I hope that helped a little bit.
