my boss caught my on ryl

ha. has this happened to anyone else here?

a lot of my co-workers look up things online throughout the day, but i'm a bit younger (25) than most of the people in my office. i got locked out of my computer and had forgotten i had ryl pulled up when it happened. my boss came to unlock it and RECOVERYOURLIFE.COM popped up in his face. at first i think he was a little annoyed that i was on a forum. being that i'm younger than most of them…i got the feeling he assumed i was on one of those crazy fanfic forums or something us irresponsible youngsters do, but he glanced at it for a moment and realized it was a mental health based forum.

in the end it didn't seem to be a big issue. just got one of those standard lectures about how it's okay to be online, just to be sure i'm getting work done. i don't know if he saw enough to know it SI related, but i think since he realized it was mental health related he kind of let me slide. phew. :satisfied:

I'm glad he was understanding. :)

An ex supervisor who liked to be bossy had a go at me for being on a 'chat room' once -RYL. I freaked out on her, and said it was a mental health site and that I needed it to get through the day.

My current bosses are cool. I only really go online in breaks, and they know I sometimes need to get myself together in whatever way I can.

:eyeroll: well...yea...

what i meant was, a lot of people at work will look up things online throughout the day. so long as we're not excessive with the amount of time were online its not an issue. i mostly was, well, i don't want to say embarrassed about the site...i just prefer not to have to talk about such personal things with co-workers.

make sure you close it before leaving it?

if it got really 'need to get out of this', you could say that you were looking up info for a co-worker who had confided in you.

kinda take the attendtion away from you for a while. mand x

oooppps! It's happened to me too, I have it as my home page, and the boss asked me to go online and find something for her while she was standing behind me.
Oops!

But it sounds like your boss is a good guy and doesn't have a problem with it. Cool.

Just remember that no doubt the server for your work will log which websites you go on.

I've found that in most places of work they do log which websites you visit so even by wiping cookies and such they will still know.

The "important" people at my job keep telling us little minions that all of our internet usage is logged and they can check it at any time. However, somehow I can't see them doing that, as they can't seem to get around to doing stuff that is necessary. We aren't supposed to be doing personal stuff online, and I have never gone on RYL when I was at work because I wouldn't want to answer questions if they came up... Although sometimes I wish I had access to that log, I would love to know what some of my co-workers do when they are supposed to be working... wuhahahahaha...

At least you are able to use the internet at work for personal things. I used to be able to get on the old ruin messageboard at school but not the actual ruinyourlife site.
