Finding a psychiatrist online
I have been looking for a couple of weeks now and there is absolutely nothing to tell me a list of them around the suburbs near where I live. I have typed in to Google several different things like find a psychiatrist, list of psychiatrists and psychiatrists in western suburbs melbourne but still to no avail. I don't really want to be seeing a CATT shrink but will if I have to I suppose. I have also tried all sorts of different depression and mental health support websites like lifeline, mental health advice line, etc. My psychologist is away from the 21st and my next appointment with him isn't until the 15th February. I can only see my GP until he goes away sometime close to Christmas as well so I've been thinking of getting that extra bit of support by seeing a psychiatrist until he returns in February.
Thanks for reading and I know it's a lot to read but I really appreciate your help. Andrea |
Might be an idea to ask your GP to put you in touch with a psychiatrist instead of looking online. I think they will be better able to point you in the right direction.

Yeah, GPs are usually the best place to go when trying to find a psychiatrist as I think you need to have a referral from them to get the appointments, and they should have a register of them on their computers in your local area. They might even know of some that they think is good for you specifically.
Good on you trying to get some more support over the season :) xx |
I agree with the above try your GP as they usually have a list of psychiatrists in the area. Also ask CATT, as they can usually refer you onto a psychiatrist as well. Good luck with it all.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm seeing my GP on Thursday so I will make a note that it's one of the things I want ask him.

Andrea so I am a little slow here, but how did it go?

He gave me a referral for a psych not far from me but I don't know whether or not to use it because when I saw a CATT worker and psychiatrist for a diagnostic review they said they would organise a case manager and shrink for me but that it would take about a week. If nothing happens from CATT then I will use the one from my GP. Sorry for the long drawn out reply.

It's not long & drawn out at all - afterall, I did ask! Thanks for letting me know :) Well done on getting the support you need Andrea, again I am so very proud of you!

Thanks Aimee
