Loosing posts/replies because you are asked to sign in again
 

I am new to these boards and any type of forum in general so sorry if this is an obvious question.

Several times now I have written responses, sometimes very lengthy ones, only for them to be lost because I am shown the log in page. It is a bit disheartening.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a time out feature?

There is indeed a time-out feature - mainly for security purposes.
When you log in, there'll be a box under your name that says 'remember me' - if you tick that, your computer won't time out - but you will always be logged in (not so good for a shared computer). If you don't want the 'remember me' function, it's best to just get in the habit of copying all your post before you go to post - as frustrating as it is!

Don't worry about asking, it's really not a problem :)

That's happened to me a few times and I've been here for years.

Thankyou :) I did get wise to it and start copying stuff but forgot a few times too, usually on the longest replies aswell!

just click the keep me signed in, then when you are done sign out and uncheck the box

That's good to know you can unclick it thankyou. My computer is no longer password protected so was wary of clicking keep me logged in. But now I know it is not permanent if you click it the once I will use it. Thanks

I've had the whole losing posts thing happen to me, its very upsetting sometimes to have to go back and retype everything you already have typed. Maybe I'll take into consideration clicking the 'keep me logged in' (or whatever) box too.. Nice thread.

I never knew RYL had a time-out feature, but then again I've always had the 'Remember Me' box checked, and I've been here for years! Learn something new every day.

I write in the quick reply box so when it times out i lust copy it using ctrl+C and keep it on my clipboard while i'm signing back in. Once i'm in the site i just paste it using ctrl+v and click submit
