THE SURVEY IS NOW CLOSED

Thank you all for taking part in the survey. The response has exceeded my expectations. You're truly amazing. I appreciate each and every participant. I start analysing the results and will prepare a briefing for those who asked for the results. Please, be patient.

Best regards,
Irmina

I'd like to see the results as well. If you need more people for the follow-up survey, feel free to PM - it sounds interesting.

Good luck with your thesis.

Melody'sAddiction 16-11-2010 06:33 PM

can i please also see the result form?

Marshmallow. 16-11-2010 06:54 PM

Oh I'd also like to take part in this and see the results =)

The One Who 16-11-2010 07:00 PM

To those asking for results, I'm sure it will take a while. These things take ages to analyse properly.

I'd be interested in seeing an ethics form (or equivalent) since you say you don't need to be an adult.

dinloth 16-11-2010 07:10 PM

I'd rather not give you access to the results sheet. In this way other people remain anonymous. But once I have all the responses I need, with both the follow-up survey and this one, I'll compile them, describe them and draw some conlusions. Then, all of you who said they want the results, will be contacted individually through this forum and given them. I hope it's clear now.

I'm glad that this time you decided to take part in it. I appreciate any help. Of course, you'll be sent the results.

See the comment at the beginning. I know that there is a feature that allows others to see the results sheet but it's fairly easy to guess other people's responses when they finish the survey and then comment here. I'd rather keep the results anonymous for know. But once I have all the responses I need and prepare them I'll contact you. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

marshmallow_xo - Thanks :D I'll send them once I have them

The One Who - Exactly. It will take time. As for the ethics form, I must say I don't have a clue what you mean. I feel bad about it and kinda silly but I'm just a research student and I'm aware of the fact that this survey will be in many aspects technically faulty. E.g. I'm not using any of the tools of statistics. I just analyse the responses. They say that a proper survey should have at least a sample of 200 people and so on. But my supervisor said that even 7 people will be alright.
Please, explain it to me because I may be doing something wrong and I appreciate suggestions.

I assume you are not from the UK. Basically, any and all research involving humans must undergo ethical approval. So they discuss possible pitfalls and then decide whether or not to grant you that approval. They are there to ensure that the research in conducting in a safe and professional manner and that the participants are fully aware of what they are doing and giving their informed consent. When it comes to children (anyone under 18) or 'vulnerable adults', there is another dimension that tries to ensure their safety because of issues of informed consent and legality.

Research usually comes with a consent form (online it might just be a tick box or a click to the next page) and an information sheet telling the participant what the project is, what it's purpose is, what you hope to achieve, whether data will be confidential or not, possible risks to the participant, that participation is voluntary (and what you will do with the data if they withdraw), and how the participant can contact you if they have questions, or who to contact if they have a query about you (usually a supervisor or department head).

Basically, ethics are annoying but essential in covering your own back as well as that of the participants.

Oh, thank you for the comprehensive response. I'm from Poland and as far as I know nobody requires such consent here. I did a survey for my B.A. thesis and none of my teachers mentioned it.
I included most of the information you mentioned in my first post but I did it just because I thought it was useful :D As I said earlier, it is not a formally acute survey as such.

what_the? 16-11-2010 08:23 PM

I'm done, and I'd be interested to see the results.
