Psychology Assessment!?

I've never had one before, my psychiatrist and CPN think I need to see a psychologist, so what's it like? xx:crying:

well i don't know about the assesment part... but i'd guess its just them asking questions. and he/she will probably be nice. you don't need to say anything that you're not comfortable sharing, but make sure you're honest, thats how they can figure out how to help you. good luck!

It's not bad hun. Your first assessment will have a lot of questions. Questions about your history and family history of mental illness. Symptoms you may be experiencing to see what type of issues or mental illnesses you may have. And even questions about your everyday life, like your interests, what you do in your free time, jobs, relationships, etc. Sometimes they even include physical health questions unless your doctor sends records. He or she may choose personality and other psych tests for you to take (rorschach ink blots, thematic apperception where you interpret pictures, and the MMPI which is a personality survey, etc.)

It's basically a get to know you, how can I help you appointment. It is really great, you are definitely headed down the right road! Good luck hun.

I've had an on-going assessment as I was a "complex" case (due to DID & BPD). It's actually been ok. Just sitting & talking... I have a tendency to talk for ages about nothing, but it's been useful I think. Just try to answer as truthfully as you can, but don't force yourself to talk about something you're not ready to. Hope it goes well hun x
