Food pictures in hide boxes.
Hello ^_^
Recently there have been quite a few posts where people have put pictures of food into hide boxes for fear that it might be triggering for other people. So this thread is just to say that its not in the rules to put food pictures into hide boxes. If you want to do so thats fine, but I think the more members see it the more people think that its something they have to do. This is by no means an attack on those who do and I completely understand why people do it and if you want to continue to please feel free, this is just a thread to make sure people know that you dont HAVE to. Thanks, Liv. |
Thank you for the reminder, lovely Liv.

I don't understand why people would do this in the first place. Although it makes me laugh, so thanks for teh lulz.

I do the same,I put pictures with food in hide boxes and I will continue putting them because I know how hard is for some people. Anyway, thank you for letting us know! |
I replied to the same thread in picture board re the ewwww nasty food thread.

Something and anything will trigger different people, but is it going to come to a point where we cant post anything or say things for fear of triggering someone else.
|
I think if it's something the poster feels more comfortable with then it's okay. I sometimes use hide boxes for food, even though looking at pictures of food doesn't upset me. But I feel more comfortable knowing that others can make that decision for themselves with the information given.
|
If the op wants to do it fair enought, but people shouldnt feel forced into doing it.

I completely understand why people do it as I said before :) And if thats what you want to do/feel comfortable with thats fine, I think its just confused some people who maybe arent familiar with the rules and who may think that they 'have' to :) xx

I don't get why people do it either, it reminds me of silly pro-ana communities where people "white out" what they've eaten so they don't "trigger" the poor little lambs. I have an ED and I don't find pictures of food distressing.
Guess it's different for everyone though? That's all I'll say on it. |
You cant avoid it though, even when im ebay i get big flashing images of a macdonalds burger.

I don't think it's fair to assume that just because somebody doesn't understand why anybody would hide food, they have no idea about eating disorders. I used to have an eating disorder, and I found it unecessary that people would put food in hide boxes. Fair enough if you're triggered by it, but don't assume that anybody who doesn't agree or understand has no concept of eating disorders.
I have a few concerns with putting food in hide boxes. Although RYL is supposed to be a 'safe haven', removing all triggers can do more harm than good. Whilst people need somewhere safe, learning adequate coping mechanisms is also important too. Secondly - and this isn't my idea, but it's one I agree with - by hiding food (especially when you're in an ED'ed mindset), it can reinforce the idea that food is 'bad' or needs to be 'hidden'. I think it's great that people are being so aware of others - but reminders like this never hurt, and people shouldn't feel as though they 'have' to put food in hide boxes, if they're unsure. |
Yeah I think its a case of different strokes for different folks :P This wasnt really supposed to be a 'putting it in a hide box is wrong' I wanted to avoid people feeling like theyre being forced to explain why the put them in hide box. Was purely to make people aware that its not mandatory.x

I respect why people do use hide boxes, but I do think it has the potential to be damaging, and I do also think that a reminder like this is great, just to say that it's not completely essential to use hide boxes - which, for a confused newbie (and oldie!) could be extremely useful. Either way, I think this is a good reminder and a good discussion to be having, too. |

I figure that if you're triggered by photos of food... you musn't go online a lot or watch TV or watch movies... cause, you know... food is everywhere.
And before you assume, I have an ED. |
I have anorexia. Food pictures don't trigger me. They make me lol.
