What horror movies would you recommend & why?
 

13 ghosts. oh i do love this film. :) i rate it about 9/10. its got a good storyline. lots of ghostyness and it has shaggy from scooby doo in it :D and i NEVER watch horror films but this one i cant help it :P
oh and im curious as to what you thought of the killing room. :)

The Haunting In Conneticut (Y), creepy, tense and just damn good. Plus the main guy's pretty fit :P

I love horror films! I'd say some of these are possibly more along the lines of a thriller, but it's the same sort of idea, I guess..

Also, it's worth noting that a couple of these movies may involve self-harm, suicide and abuse/sexual abuse triggers. So if you're going to check them out (which you should because they're amazing) be careful, okay? :)

Tale of Two Sisters - it's a Korean horror, subtitled. Involves two sisters (shocker, I know!) who return home after being in a psychiatric hospital, and then weeeeeeiiird stuff starts happening. One of my favourites.

The Grudge is alright, but the Japanese verion - Ju-On is a masterpiece. The same with The Ring vs Ringu. Asia just does better horror movies than the Western world! They have a far better concept of suspense, the music's creepy. And of course, it's always a little creepy that you don't understand the language. Even though you've got the subtitles there, you still listen to the tone of voice far more then you would when watching an American Horror.

Movies of Stephen King novels are usually pretty good: IT being the scariest, I think. Carrie, Rose Red, Misery, Cujo.

Dawn of the Dead, The Evil Dead + Night of the Living Dead. Zombie movies are always good. Always.

Exorcism of Emily Rose - My Boyfriend says he wasn't impressed, but I thought that some of it was really creepy.

Gothika. With Halle Berry as a doctor in a psychiatric hospital who wakes up as a patient in her own hospital.

28 Days Later Because zombie movies are always good. Always. Not terrifying, but it's such a well made movie - and some of the shots of abandoned London are... ohsocreepy and ohsobeautiful. Directed by Danny Boyle, who, incidentally did an English degree at my uni :)

The Blair Witch Project isn't the scariest movie in the world, but when I was nine and it came out, I was terrified. And, it still creeps me out a little.

Silence of the Lambs I think is more of a thriller, but it's still scary!

The Hills Have Eyes. There's two versions, 1977 + 2005. 2006? A few years ago anyway. As with any film, the classic is obviously the best - but I think the new one is creepier. And The Hills Have Eyes 2 - which was released a few years back - has the creepiest bit with a tongue. Ugh. Tongues are creepy.

The Exorcist : considered the best horror movie of all time. It's creepycreepy. When my mother was eighteen, she went to see this movie. She had to walk home, alone, through a graveyard. She cried all the way.

2001: A Space Odyssey
The Birds - I agree with this one, very scary..

Eyes Wide Shut - The original, because the new one sucks.

House Of A Thousand Corpses + The Devil's Rejects - I agree with these two - they're wicked movies, directed by Rob Zombie.

I spent way too long on this list, but I've really really enjoyed writing it, haha. Even though I have realised I use the word CREEPY way too much. I'm such a massive horror movie geek :)

I love horror films!!

Okay, my favourites are:

Halloween - just a fantastic film, it relies solely on tension and atmosphere rather than being a gore fest like a lot of modern horrors. It looks a touch out of doubt nowadays but it's worth trying to appreciate it for what it was back then. I believe it was one of the very first slasher films of its kind.

IT - Adaptation of Stephen King's novel. Pennywise is absolutely fantastic.

Nightmare On Elm Street - Hugely enjoyable film. I'm not sure how to describe it really but it's excellent.

The Omen, Psycho, Scream, The Shining and Child's Play are definetly worth a look too.

I have a few modern horrors in my collection, but I hugely prefer the old classics.

I totally agree. I thought the Sarah Michelle Gellar one was pretty scary, but the original is just genius. I tried to watch the original Ringu because I loved The Ring but it was like 2 in the morning when I realised it was on, and I fell asleep. The first part seemed pretty good though!

I saw this at the cinema and it was so, so scary on the big screen. Very clever, too. The mystery element really keeps it going.

The Others and The Orphanage (El Orfanato), both by Juan Antonio Bayona, are both great, very scary movies, with clever twists and turns. Also, The Devil's Backbone by Guillermo Del Toro. The Descent is an excellent bit of film-making, and a very scary film. The Bone Collector is as great thriller, with Denzel Washington and a young Angelina Jolie.

EVERYTHING BY ALFRED HITCHCOCK. 'The Birds' and 'Psycho' are great, but so is 'Frenzy', 'The Man Who Knew Too Much', and so on and so forth. The Hole (2001, with Thora Birch) is worth a watch. Creep too, if for no other reason than we all know it would be scary as **** to get locked in a tube station, even if there wasn't a killer loose in it. I personally thought 13 Ghosts was awful, but I know others who liked it. I did also like The Exorcism of Emily Rose, although I found the courtroom drama the more interesting part actually. That's all I can think of for now. I still have not gotten around to watching the original The Shining. Shame on me.

The Shining! Scariest movie of all time! I love it because it's so much more atmospheric and creepy rather than gorey. So many modern movies rely on blood and guts, but there's no need here. Watch it, it's awesome!

Also, along those same lines, see 1408. There's hardly any "gross" parts, but it's still scary as hell.

Drag Me To Hell is probably the best horror of the past few years. It's by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead/Army of Darkness) so it has a good mix of scary, gorey, and funny parts.

That film made me laugh loads. I questioned if I was watching the right film LOL.

I also agree with Creep, The Others and Hole.

Hole is amazing.

Loved silence of the lambs and the hole. I think Rosemary's baby is a classic, don't know if anyone has mentioned it but Shaun of the dead is just the greatest :P Recently watched Antichrist, figured I had to considering it was supposed to be soo controversial, well in the first 3 minutes in I was like Waaaa? Jeez Louise i'm still having flashbacks, definitely not for the faint of heart O_o

Thought I might add that Antichrist has extremely graphic scenes of violence and sex, so err well viewers may find offensive and disturbing. Not a joke!

"It" scared the shiiiit outta me :(

"Long Time Dead" is the scariest horror I've seen. It gave me nightmares for ages.. I saw it only the one time a few years ago and I still get shivers and uneasy when I have to go to public bathrooms >.<

Creep is amazing.

Cloverfield was good. The premise is fairly standard, but I loved the look of the film, and the way the story played out. It's a monster movie, sort of--scary creature comes up out of the water and stomps Manhattan Island into rubble. It's got a few gory parts in it, but there's a scene where the characters are going through a subway tunnel to try and escape the city...very well done. This is the first and only movie that's ever given me the creeps.

I liked Skeleton Key, too. It's about a female nurse who takes a job helping this old lady take care of her wheelchair-bound husband, but finds out...some other stuff. ;) The acting in this one was good, and I thought the isolation/gaslighting of the protagonist was done very well. The music is the best part, though. They use old blues music, like "Come On In My Kitchen," to set the tone. Perfect. :D

The Decent is pretty scary. Strange freaky creatures in a cave and all that! I think the fact that it is set in a cave (they're cave exploring) makes it more scary. They fear of the unknown and you start to feel how they feel if you were with them.
