FOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just wondering if anyone works in the food industry .I mean like hotel and restaurant ,not fast food.
I would like to know how many covers you do a day ,how busy you would be .Just interested

I worked in the kitchen of a retirement village. Thursday nights were pretty busy because they would have functions on that night of up to 150 people. Lunch and dinner of other days were pretty quiet.

What does that mean?

I don't work there but a smallish restaurant near mine did 158 covers in one night. That was a record for them.

I dont know the lingo so I cant help, but it really depends on the type and location of the food place as to how busy it can get.

Do you work in the kitchen?
food must be good if its only 100 ,like dedication to each dish
I used work in central London ,was some buzz

No i work on the floor.
And its a very small place, as in i work alone on the floor. 100 isn't small. Its a quite big turnover for an 18 table place.

For an 18 table place that's actually quite impressive.

I work in a hotel when I'm at home, which is just in my town. The amount of covers we do depends, on day of the week, number of residents, what service it is, breakfast, lunch or dinner, what functions we have in.

For example, an average breakfast is probably about 20-30 guests, whereas an average dinner is about 15-20, but when we have a function in I've seen us do over 200 covers in an evening, plus residents. It really depends.

jesus Liar (bee) thats crazy for 18 tables ,you must be running around all day.wow ,Im amazed and what the? breakfast fro 30 is very small ,hotels I worked in would do 180 for breakfast.Functions are always mad but if ur organised its cool .I love all these stories !

akita 19-08-2010 04:39 AM

What are covers please?

what_the? 19-08-2010 08:15 AM

Yeah, it is quite small, we have done breakfasts of 90, but that's when we've had a wedding or something on. Mid-week it's generally quiet, and then weekends much busier.
We also get loads of room only guests, so although the hotel itself can be busy service isn't, if that makes sense. I like it, it's normally not that stressful and we have some lovely regulars, especially on a sunday lunchtime.

Covers are orders.

akita 19-08-2010 08:57 AM

^ Thankyou.

Covers are people
Not orders
