haloperidol

Is anyone on this? How do you find it works?

when i was in hospital i took it prn and found that it dulled the voices almost immediately. Is this normal?

MY psych doesn't like it though so wont prescribe it for me long term. Even though it's the only thing thats worked so far.

Only had it IM and it just knocked me out.

When I was IP they gave me it as PRN when I was kicking off one time and I hated it, I slept all afternoon. Suppose it did the job though.

I am still on Haloperidol 5mg PRN, and as you said it's a brilliant drug! It is absolutely normal for it to work very quickly, as it is a very potent dopamine blocker.

However, I can also understand your psych's concern for regular/long term use. Movement disorders are very common with Haloperidol and adding Procyclidine may cause further side effects such as blurred vision. Perhaps you should talk to your psych again, or ask for a second opinion.

I used to be on 20mg Haloperidol and that was really good, just the extra-pyramidal side-effects are irritating to say the least so I'm on 10mg Haloperidol and 20mg Olanzapine now. I would advise you to try it, it's a very good drug, but be careful for side-effects. Procyclidine gives me blurred vision, as Laurie mentioned, though.

I thought it was very good too, although it never knocked me out. I've had it IM, PRN and as a regular med and I'd probably still be on it but I just couldn't handle the side effects; it got to the point where I just couldn't do anything because of them.

I've had it IM and PRN as well as regular med. IM tends to knock out because of the higher bioavailability of the drug as an injection compared to a pill. So 5mg IM feels like a 10mg pill.
