voices voices, when will they stop?
So i am Bipolar
And lucky me, i got all the positive symptoms that most people dont even associate with bp I hear voices, see things, taste things, smell things The smelling part is kind of funny to me i lost most of my smell in a sinus surgery misphap, but anywho i was kind of wondering if any one knows how to make this stop without medication i hate taking pills refuse to for that matter did i mention i have a bit of paranoia as well? on top of all these terrible delusion,, which arnt always bad but latly have been i am terribly depressed and noone ever notices im not sure how to deal with this i never learned any healthy coping mechagnisms mine all go into the catagories of si and ed so i also was wondering if anyone had any healthy suggestions and if for any reason you have trouble understanding me, its part of the bp ive been told., makes me sound scatter brained' i just joined here a few mins ago so i apologize for it this is all wrong |
First of all welcome to RYL Kat,
I myself don't have Bipolar disorder, but like yourself I do have voices, see things, paranoid delusions, etc so I can sympathise with some aspects of what you experience. With regards to the question you ask, I'm not sure if there are any no medication ways to make hallucinations stop. There are probably therapies to help you learn to live with them and deal with them, but it's generally stated in medicine that psychosis is caused by an excess of dopamine in the brain and that correcting it via medication is the way to deal with it. Personally I feel this is rather reductionist to reduce us all to a simple chemical defect. And like yourself I do not like medications thus have stopped using them. Since you have bipolar do you find that your positive symptoms are more noticeable during the depression or manic phases? Do they decrease in strength during periods of stability? Or do they remain noticeable regardless of mood? If the positive symptoms like the voices remain noticeable independent of mood has it ever been suggested looking into schizoaffective disorder bipolar type? Just might be something worth looking into since your positive symptoms are so noticeable. But I'm not a doctor so that's something you'd have to investigate with your psychiatrist. If you ever want to talk about voices, weird experiences, paranoia, etc we have the psychosis thread and you're more than welcome to pop in and say hi :-) http://www.recoveryourlife.com/forum...ad.php?t=93845 |
Thanksi'll look into that
i have rapid cycling, so lots of times i dont have time to even determin which spin im in its up and down a few times a day but right now its been much better then it has been the past year with summer,, although last summer kind of made this all start but yes, thanks ill swing by that thread now and read some =] |
Welcome to RYL!
Have you seen a Dr about this? I ask because Bi-polar swings, even in rapid cycling bi-polar, tend to last days at a time at the very shortest, not swing within the same day. Have you thought about complimentary therapies like massage and aromatherapy? Sorry the advice here is sparse, *offers a hug* |
As missanonymous said, bipolar swings take longer than within the same day.
Have you been diagnosed with paranoia? Surely a psychiatrist would have strongly recommended medication for these diagnoses? Why are you so strongly opposed to medication? |
they diagnosed me with bipolar, but then i stoppd seeing the doctor because i cant afford it,,, im terrified of pills because ive had terrible reactions different pills and i dont want a different personalitys
and in the us if i take meds while im on my parents insurance once im on my own ill have to pay full price for meds, and i think it may be benificial to wait it out a bit. the doctors around here are really broad with diagnosing your either depressed bipolar skitzophrenic or have anxiety problems ive been told all of these by different doctors, and it makes no sence that everyone thinks different things another reason i wont take meds, noone really knows whats wrong with me and my dear mother wont let me use her insurence to go to a phych doctor, because she does not want me on meds "theres nothing wrong with me" im just over imaginative supposivly i really have no support around me and no money to get help so im mainly working with what i have |
and ill add its not all meds, ive been on medicine for my panic attacks for years
but i started those before i became afraid of pills so for some reason they dont appear dangerous... it that makes any sense |
Have you ever told your doctor you feel this way about taking pills, prehaps he could suggest other things you could try?
|
she said sleep more. made me laugh, because she told me this when i told her i was barly sleeping at all due to nightmeres and voices keeping me awake, then she told me to take more anxiety meds for bedtime. quack doctors in the US i swear
