Therapy

Does any one else go to therapy and barely talk?

Im so full of thoughts that i really want to talk about but i just cant and im not sure why.\\

Sorry this is a bit of a stupid thread

Don't worry, it's not stupid :)

Maybe it's hard for you to just sit and talk? My last therapist worked a lot with little kids so she had lots of things like toys and coloring books to mess with while you were in session. I found it easier to talk when I had something besides her to focus on. Maybe you could get a little toy (like a stress ball or something) to play with while in therapy?

Or you could try writing down what you want to talk about ahead of time. Word-for-word if you like. Then you can just give your therapist the paper, they can read it, and maybe you can elaborate where needed? That could get the conversation flowing.

Good luck! :)

^ I agree with the writing it down idea.
I used to do that and hand it to my counsellor which made it a lot easier.

Yeah, I keep a mood diary and show it to my therapist. It really helps to get my thoughts across and it means that I don't forget anything.

When I was going to therapy, I had a lot of communication problems, so, I typed everything out & brought my laptop & showed my psych it.

Could this be an alternative for you?
Writing/typing it all out & giving it to your psych?

write it down =D seriously do, the only reason I have any help at the moment is because i got a nice form to fill out at counselling asking all sorts of questions so they could ask me things rather than me having to tell. I took the same form along to the GP after and now I'm getting all sorts of help =)

It takes time and I have days when I've sat and said nothing because something has been triggered off.
If you already write things down why don't you write some questions and rather than giving it to her read say them instead? You can move on from there.

I feel the same way too. I have so much in my mind, and I'll get overwhelmed and freeze up. I write a lot though, so I bring my laptop with all my journal entries on it.

Thanks for the replies.

I know it takes time but i have had the same therapist for six years haha how much longer will it take?

Maybe the therapist needs to try something else? Mine has just changed to something called projection therapy as he felt it was a safer way to deal with things.
