fluoxetine?

(aka prozac/lovan/sarafem etc)

I've just been put on it and I'm a tad concerned about whether or not it will work, annnnd which side effects, if any, I'll get (I tend to be unlucky so I know I will D:)
Could anyone tell me how it works/worked for them?
Thank you ^^

Leo Pard 10-05-2010 11:22 PM

Does one not get a leaflet as standard with all meds?
I always have.

thedes 11-05-2010 07:08 AM

Hmm yeah for some reason I didn't get a little leaflet in my meds, which seemed odd to me.
Thanks everyone ^^ <3

sometime you dont get one i didnt all the time i depends how may tablets i get from my phycatric doctor and have to pick up another prsecription
he depends how many days they can trust u not to abuse meds if u have in the past......................................

I always think of this as the marmite of medicine - People either find it doesn't help or that it is the best thing they ever tried.

For me, it did not work, but I know many people for who it did.

Give it a chance and as said above, if you are unsure about how you are feeling, or if the side effects last longer than a couple of weeks, speak to your GP or Prescriber.

Best of luck.

Some people it has been an absolute saviour, my father has taken this for many years. for others such as myself, it didn't work.

trial & error!

I had a week where everything was perfect and then my mood dropped again. I hope you find it helpful. Take care.

x-dying-inside-x 11-05-2010 10:24 PM

It didn't help me at all.
I hope it helps you.

Made me worse, so I was put on Venlafaxine instead & find them great but as already said they are different for everyone so give them a go & see how you feel, the side effects i had that were common are Diarhoeah & Nausea but they tend to dissappear after a week, hope they work for you *hugs* :-)

zippi 13-05-2010 12:19 AM

Nothing worked for me for ages. I tried everything (even nothing - bad idea) so they suggested a combination of prozac and amitriptiline. For at least the first month or so I was sceptical and didn't think it would work but at the 1 - 2 month point, it really started to and boy is it good. I'm a lot better than I was and more stable too. It's definately the best one I've tried.

(and it stays in your system for a while so if you forget to take it or run out, it isn't that big a deal)

Oh and my side effects were appalling memory, and it made my dyspraxia symptoms worse ie spacial awarness, clumsieness etc. Feels like you're in a big bubble for a while
.
Hope it works for you

Huggles Zippi xx

I've just been put on it too, I have to go back in a week so they can check it's not making me worse etc. I wish I'd sorted all this a few weeks ago not right before my exams when I could do with NOT feeling sick!

Gone. 13-05-2010 08:40 PM

Damn, it makes you feel sick? I've got exams coming up as well and I've just been prescribed it.

And I didn't get an information leaflet with it, my GP just printed a load of stuff off the internet.

Entropy 13-05-2010 10:26 PM

my GP did that too ^^ but when I got it there's a little bit of paper it only says side effects though nothing else really. Its all covered in the info off the internet, she just told me that the most common side effect was feeling sick tbh. I dont really understand why i have 7 days worth when it doesnt work for over 7 days anyway!

xbeckyx 14-05-2010 10:26 AM

It madce me feel sick and tired at first but that soon wore off.
I hope it helps you.
