A toast...
 

I have been an unofficial member here for five years.

I remember RYL fondly as ruinyourlife, not recover, and while I regretfully was not able to keep my original login information (long story), I've been here to see the changes.

I'll tell you what, I like it here.
I like the community, I like the support. I like the ideas, the people, the triumphs. I like the flaws, too.

I cannot tell you how ashamed I was to admit that, to admit that I was part of something like this, to admit that I self-injured, that I was what I saw as little more than a broken piece of garbage waiting to find the curb. I'm not ashamed anymore.

It took me a long time, but I'm kicking my shoes off, and I'm toasting to the people who made this site possible, toasting to those whose presence kept it up and made it what it is today, and I'm toasting to people like the me I am today- and the people who are like the old me: still too scared, too embarrassed.

I know it sounds like a horrible line, but think about this for a moment, let it soak in: you're gorgeous, you're strong, you're brave.

Even if you doubt it, even if you say that it isn't true, well... I know that it is.

So cheers, ya'll. Cheers. Here is to hoping for another brilliant five for me.
