Citalopram
Anyone else on the anti-depressant Citalopram?
I've been on it for two weeks now and have a question. It says on the leaflet that drinking is not advisable...so far I've managed to avoid situations in which alcohol might be involved, but I won't be able to for much longer. Has anyone else carried on drinking while they've been on them? How has it affected you? No-one know I'm on anti-ds, and I don't want to have to tell anyone, but it'll look weird if I suddenly stop drinking. |
ive been on it and drank, didnt really see a diff myself, but be careful, cz it affects everyone differently!! x
|
i was a riot when drinkin on that stuff when i first got put on them, be careful!
|
I was on them.
I drank on them. I got drunk quicker I suppose, and was well, less easy to control? I dunno. You're told not to drink on them for a reason. Be careful. Drinking on them, made my SI worse. |
I guess it IS different for everybody. I'm on Escitalopram, which is pretty much the same thing and have been drinking and not been too bad...
But, y'know, if it says you shouldn't then you shouldn't I guess. |
I got totally pissed while on Citalopram and nothing bad happened, I was fine. But be careful. It IS bad for your liver to drink while on meds and you could get drunk a lot more quickly. My pharmacist friend told me that you can drink, but take it slowly, try not to mix drinks, and if you feel funny, stop right away and don't drink any more.

Technically, with any anti-depressant, you aren't meant to drink alcohol while on them because alcohol is a depressant, so drinking cancels out the effect of the anti-depressant. So my psych told me anyway.
Hope this has helped in some way. Take care. Nic xxx |
Thanks, everyone, for the replies. :-)

I'll take everything into consideration and just take it slowly, I guess. Thanks again! *squishes everyone* |
hey
im not on them now, but they were the first anti-depressant i was on. i asked my doctor when i could drink while on them, and he said 'of course, we dont want you to feel like you live in a prison, but whether you're on these or not you should drink responsibly'. i always drank while on them, and they had no bad side effects. hope this is help, and thinks work out for you. XxX |
I'm on them and I still drink. Not to excess though. I'm no expert but I should think it's probably ok, check with your doctor though.

I'm on Citalopram and I feel rather merry after just 2 double vodka tonics haha
|
When I was on them my doctor told me that you are allowed to drink, just don't go overboard.
I did get pretty drunk quite a bit when i was on them, u just can't go into a "omg the rooms spinning, i can't move *throws up*" kinda state. I think when I drank heavily on it I did get a bit dizzy, like the alcohol affects u more. So basically you can, just be a bit more careful than usual. |
hi happy phantom. i'm on citalopram, and tbh if i just have one or two drinks i don't feel much difference... though sometimes the combination does make me drowsy. i don't think the odd drink or two matters, but if you drink every night or drink loads, then i'd echo what's been said about the drink cancelling out the effects of your tablets... hope that helps lol x

i was on it yeah and didnt really notice a difference. But then again, it never worked for me anyway. Ive heard of people getting drunk a lot quicker on it but i was always a lightweight to start with so thats probably y i didnt notice any difference. Be careful the first time you drink on it, dont drink too much.

Co-incidence. I've also just hit about the 2/half week point this drug. Although unfortunately it has not made me feel any better, I will say be VERY careful when drinking on it.
I went out last friday with my friends. I'll admit we got a bit too drunk but nothing we hadn't done before. Except as I was getting near my home there's a little blank spot in my memory from the point of getting out of the taxi to the point of waking up on the pavement with a Fast Response Paramedic vehicle beside me. So yeah.. Careful. |
