Community art fundraising suggestion

It's pretty clear to me that RYL has some great artists. I was thinking, maybe some of those artists could donate some pieces for sale. Whereas, they could sign a contract saying they agree for RYL to sell their artwork and take the profits, and the drawings/painting/photos can be on a website like deviant art where prints can be ordered. I think there would be a lot of members willing to donate their talents, and with the quality of some of the work this could bring in a good amount of money.

Has anyone else ever thought of this? Anyone think it's a good/feasible idea?

I think its a great idea! Id be willing to help, i know i havent posted any of my art work actually on here but id be willing to help all the same! Its a really good idea in my opinion!

i think you need to think about it, i dont think its quite so simply and i dont know if alot of stuff sells on there and if for much.

I think it's a good idea, are deviant art accounts free? if they are then even if nothing sells, you haven't lost anything except for the few minutes it takes to make an account. And anything that does sell is money for RYL.

I'm not sure. I've never thought any of my work was good enough to sell (and it isn't!) but I'd consider making a couple of pieces for RYL. However, I'm wondering if you'd have to pay some money to dA for them making and selling the pieces... in fact, I pretty much know you would, 'cause that's how they make their money.

As far as I know Deviant Art accounts are free. Some things could sell. Also, if some people were willing to do it, in the spring/summer at art fairs someoen could open up a little booth for RYL artwork if it was affordable. *shrug* It's worth a shot. The DA account wouldn't take any extra money, we would just need people to sign away the rights to sell a certain piece of art. And even if just a handful of things sell? Well every little bit helps! And people could sort of push others to take a look at it and consider buting it. Adverstising does a lot!

i dont think it would do much good though, its a nice idea but you may end up not making any money at all. Its kinda like saying put a lot of stuff up on ebay and see if it sells, but you would have to get lot of people intrested in buying, it seems like alot of hard work for nothing.

As for opening booths, there pretty much out of the question. My mum and I were going to do one at christmas and there usually about £150 for one day, so that has to come out of any profits you make.

I suggest you have a look and see how much (or rather little!) these prints actually give the artist.

I think its a really lovely idea but I cant see it materializing. :(

As well as that, if I were to draw something (lmao, like if in any of my drawings anyone would be able to tell what it was!) then I'd not really be sure about handing over the rights of them to RYL so they could be sold because as well as that, then, whenever you draw something and put it up on RYL, if some of your stuff did sell I think you'd often feel you had to do it more and some things people might not want others to buy but could feel pressured. Same as people might feel pressured that because x's are selling then they should do the same without even thinking if that's what they want. As well as that, handing over pictures to RYL say forever or a period of time, under a contract, would kind of take the credit away from the user themselves and would be hard I imagine to get it up and running.

i would allow ryl to use prints of my art but not the art itself

Abintra 31-01-2010 01:05 AM

and yeah deviant art rip the artist off i sold a print on there of one of mine and only got store credit that is only useful if i want to buy things from deviant art

i find that rude as bunch of ingrades

On the deviantART thing, i've had a look and:
