What is ment by

Have been asked am I suicidal in the past and always just said no as have not wanted to be taken in to hospital and plus not really sure if I would really carry it out, What exactly does this question mean? Is it that you intent to go out and do the deed there and then, or that you are thinking of it allot? If you stated yes would you be kept in or sectioned or would they just insist you talk more about why and deal with a case on case basis

I think about suicide alot despite my mood being ok at the moment. I have told crisis teams, professionals of such thoughts in the past and not been taken in to hospital, I find that being able to talk about it with someone helps instead of it festering away inside me and me becoming more and more obsessive. I have had plans in the past, told my team and not been admitted.

I did however end up in hospital (voluntarily but prob wouldn't have been if I resisted) at the end of last year as my behaviour and thoughts had changed to it being constant and me trying various methods/attempts of suicide.

I suppose I have waffled there but just letting you know that admitting such feelings are not an automatic need for hospital, it will be assessed by the professionals and the more they know about your thoughts, ideas, etc, the more able they are to help you and recognise when you need any further help to stay safe, be it hospital or other ways.

this qst always confuses me... I never know whether I should say yes because I am thinking about it a lot and have plans... or whether I should say no because I really dont think Id have the guts to do anything

sorry for not really helping but your not alone

yeah here it's only if you have an exact plan to hurt yourself that you get put into the hospital.

The actual planning of it seems to be an important element in how worried your doctor gets. wanting to, longing to, etc aren't usually seen as bad as planning how to. Mine always asks me if I'm thinking about ways and have I planned anything yet so I always just say no to that question

Well there's being actively suicidal which is when you have a plan and have actually been trying to kill yourself physically and there's 'feeling' suicidal which just means you have thoughts of wanting to die but have not been acting on them.
When I'm asked I answer usually 'not actively.'
