CAMHS inpatient.
 

I may have asked this on my other account, sorry if I have.

If I have to go inpatient, will I still see/be able to see the CAMHS team that I've been seeing until now? I find it very hard to trust and so I will be very unlikely to talk to new people in hospital.

Does anyone have any experience of going into hospital while under CAMHS?

i went into hospital when i was 14. you will have to stop having therapy with your current supporters, all of that kinda thing will come from the hospital. you will have reviews regularly, and someone from your current team will attend those. when you are discharged you will have a handover back to the outpatient team, and the hospital will have handed over everything.
of course that is how it is supposed to work, absolutely no garantees it will! it also depends on how far away the hospital is from your outpatient team, if you are at the other end of the country they will be a lot more reluctant to turn up to meetings!

I had the same experience as Vetty.
The hospital staff will be experienced in people finding it hard to trust them and in time I hope you will feel able to talk to them. I know I found it very difficult at first but it was ok.

You could request that the people you have been comfortable working with visit you whilst you are an inpatient. I've known that to happen.

^^ lucky you! i never saw my camhs team again once i was admitted! i was too old to be under them cos iwas in hospital for 8 years in the end.

8 years straight? Wow, I thought I was remarkable to be in for 3.

remarkable isn't quite the word i would use! 14-22 yrs old, came out like a 13 yr old, having had more sh*t done to me than most people wud in 10 lifetimes. i was 16yr old in adult units, i spent over 6 months without stepping foot in fresh air, and for 2 years i was being pinned down by 6 people 4 times a day to be tube fed. i was specialed 4:1 on level 1, given ect at 16, not allowed to see my parents and abused by the staff.
sorry, in a bad mood atm, my hospital years ain't good.

Thanks for the info guys, my psych has told me the procedure for the unit I'm going into, I'll visit it soon and they said they'll still be in contact.

What kind of things do they offer on the ward?

If, which it would most likely be, its an adolescent ward there would be a school unit attached where you would be expected to attend for a few hours a day IF you were able to. In secure units, I believe they have to have schooling facilities but most of the patients would be too unwell to attend.

There is usually groups; (where I was there was morning and afternoon meetings where everyone met up to discuss their day, write names on the chores list, (such as setting the dinner table), and request leave/phonecalls) there was also an art group, self harm group and after I left they started DBT groups too.

Individually you would get family therapy, art therapy and one to one sessions with your key worker (nurse assigned to you for the whole length of your stay) or 'named nurse of the day' who is responsible for your checks on that shift/part of the day they are there (this person changes daily, but it gives you someone to talk to when your key worker isnt on shift).

We had some aromatherapy sessions as one offs, and one of the staff did head massages in the lounge. In the school holidays they have a programme of activities for during the day to keep those well enough to do them busy. Things like walks, swimming, visiting places and photography.

I didnt visit the ward I went to first cos I was sent there as an emergency admission from a general ward but they should have a website or leaflets explaining what the programe involves and the rules of the unit etc. Ask for this in the meantime maybe?

How can you be specialed 4:1? I thought it only went up to 2:1 because that's what I was on for a month....

When I was in a CAMHS ward I didn't see my team while I was inpatient and when I got discharged, they got mixed up with doctors and changed them around a bit =/ but some hospital staff can be really great, well, some of them.
When I was on the adult ward, I got to see my psychologist once a week. My psychiatrist happened to be the consultant on the ward for my borough, so when I had ward round, I saw her.

i was on 4:1 for over a year, at times, a couple of weeks at a time i was on 6:1. and that was on a secure unit. i have just posted a message on the thread that is about abuse in hospitals.
