Christmas Traditions
 

This is for everyone, whether you celebrate Christmas, Hannukah (however you spell that), don't celebrate anything, or (like me) just plain hate the holiday season.

It doesn't have to have anything to do with the holidays, but does anyone have anything that they always do every year around this time, as tradition?

I always watch the Star Wars trilogy (Star Wars on Christmas Eve, The Empire Strikes Back on Christmas Day and Return Of The Jedi the day after). I've done it every year since I was about ten.

So, anyone else have anything?

The tradition is broken this year in some way...

Christmas eve used to be all the family for a pub meal... (auntie is working, cousin is working) so just be mum dad me and brother.

NYE is spent round my aunties house.

From as early as I can remember until about three years ago, so 'til I was 16/17, I would go to my grandparent's on my dad's side for a big fry up after mass. Then we'd go to my uncle's and meet the other side of the family, which we still do every year.
That's really the only traditional thing we do in my house, go around and visit the very large extended family.

I have to watch 'The Snowman' on Christmas eve with Mum. Me and a friend also drop each others presents on each others doorsteps as well. I don't know why we don't ring the doorbell and speak but its kind of tradition now, as well as the fact that the present has to be homemade and cost exactly 99p.

Go to the candelight carol service the sunday before christmas and church on christmas day.

Although we go to church normally anyways so it's not really anything out of the ordinary!

We always go to 6pm Mass (Even if we go to midnight mass) I went to a catholic primary school so ALWAYS see someone I went to school with lol.

My dad always reads 'the night before christmas' to me and my sister.

We go to the pub with a family who also have a set of twins and whom Ive known since I was born.

We always watch 'the snowman' on christmas eve.

aw these sound cute. we don't do anything like that.

up early christmas morning, exchange presents with my sister, go to 11 mass come home do dinner and then do nothing but watch films, seems to be the wizard of oz all the time haha

then on stephens day(boxing day) go to my grandas house and spend the day down there for dinner and such.

i dislike christmas for some reason, no idea why though.

We always go to the Christingal service on christmas eve, if we're eating christmas dinner at home, we all peel veg etc on christmas eve

then christmas day, we (bothers and i) always open half of our stocking presents - larger side if there's uneven number on our own, the rest with parentals when they're up. then church then christmas tree stuffs :)

I always help my mum with the turkey on xmas eve,she might be getting me to do it alone this year,eeep!

We never have turkey - Daddy barbeques steak in the garden while wearing shorts. We all jump into Lough Ennel in the morning - really wakes you up!! :) Yus we're totally normal...

I don't think we really have any.

I might start a tradition this year!!! cause I am soooo boring, have no traditions but they sound fun

We must always watch Love Actually on Christmas Eve, although this tradition is getting annoying now...

Other than that, not really.

My grandma makes this thing called a "Jolly Breakfast ring" and we all have to be at the house (all...11 of my family members) before any Christmas activities take place.
And I always get stuck with the crappy room because I'm the youngest. Pssh....someone should have a kid in the family so I won't be alone.

Our traditions have changed since we've grown older. I sort of wish they hadn't. I wish we still put sherry out for Father Christmas and a carrot out for Rudolph. Also, when I was very little we used to read "The Night Before Christmas" too. Best poem ever.

Now... well, I do like to watch Muppets' Christmas Carol at some point. This is my favourite Christmas song ever:

I always swap gifts with my good friend on Christmas Eve; have been doing that for about ten years.

Last Christmas morning, my family came round to mine for breakfast (we always have poached eggs) and then I went to theirs for lunch. Over recent years we've got most of it in packages from M&S!

we still put out mince pie/sherry/carrots!

We used to always go round my friends on Christmas day, but that doesn't happen anymore since we're either away or they are.

:D I still do this!!! Granted it's because I have a 4 year old but I think it's as much for me as it is for him :cool:

We open stockings in bed
Then open presents after breakfast (or, rather, after we've eaten chocolate from our stocking) About it really as far as tradition goes.

This year we're going to my Dads and doing it his way which is to walk to a pub for midday then come home, have dinner, open presents, play games, get drunk. Sounds excellent.

Oh and since having my son the "Christmas Elves" come to put the Christmas Decorations up on 1st December. They also leave him an advent calendar and a new decoration for him to put on the tree :-D
