Relationship advice?

Hey, this seems silly to ask, but I always get good advice here so now I'm asking the lame thing. I've started seeing a guy I know through work (we don't work together, just meet at functions) but I just found out he used to harm too. The thing is, I'm still recovering and he tells me that it's normal and "Everyone's self-destructive in their own way." I don't think that's helping me and I've tried to tell him that and he says it's up to me to decide whether I want to stop. I know this makes him sound unsupportive etc. but other than this he's really sweet. It's early days but it's going well and I wondered if anyone had advice? Maybe you've experienced something similar?

Unsupportive? He sounds the complete oposite to me!

Most people meet judgemental people who think they can cure them or they are attention seeking.

He sounds honest and open and hes right. Many people do have destruictive tendancies. People do it in differing ways tho like contact sport and bunjee jumping and extreme fitness and such.

The fact he is saying its up to you to decide to stop shows me he knows he cant fix you and is accepting of what SH is like when trying to stop.

Hang on to him! He sounds lovely

now go out and buy MITTENS!

I really want to say i agree with ninjapenguin and morrigan. He is saying to you he knows that he cant make you stop, but also he believes that you'll get through this. Some men can be idiots and think women will do what they say, not your one. Keep him, good luck x

I agree that he sounds supportive. However, I also know what it feels like for someone to say that they can't stop you and they aren't going to try.

However, he sounds like he does really care, because he's not trying to change you but is going to be there through your progress.

As Matt said, keep him. ^^

I wish you luck lovely!
