scarification - scar tattooing *poss si trig?*

ok, so im not making this up but i heard about this and wondered what you all thought....

theres a new "craze" apparently about scar tattooing which is basically paying to get chunks of your skin cut out to create a scarred tattoo....these are seriously deep cuts we.

when i first heard of it i thought it was crazy, but now i think about it i still think its crazy but i can see it as a strange way of si....

what do you all think about this "craze" scarification?

Jelly Fairy 02-08-2007 06:24 PM

I saw that a while ago. Personally I think it's pretty stupid. Not only is it dangerous and has a much higher risk of infection than normal tattoos, but it's probably not as permanent. All scars fade with time, even if they are bad.

Sans Peur 02-08-2007 06:33 PM

I do not think its a craze.it has been around fora very long time in tribal communities.

I know everyone is allowed their own opinion but i dont think its stupid... itslike saying a tattoo is stupid, a piercing or w/e.Its thier own body, thier own lives.Ifyou dont like it then dont lookat it

Scarification is not self harm.Body piercers/ tattooists allover the world have been trained and do it under SAFE conditions.

i think scarification is beautiful. It is something i may look into inthe future and it wouldnt be a replacement for self harm. i like the lookof it.

It's not a craze in a sort of universal sense - like Jane says it's been around for certainly centuries. But it could be a craze in a certain area, or among a certain group of people. Like some people have been goths for years, and others only do because they see it as cool or they want to fit in.

sori ppl, i may have worded it wrong...didnt mean to offend or anything...sori

guiltyinnocence 03-08-2007 02:14 AM

i think scarification can look really god if done properly, but its not something id get done
though, i have contemplated being branded, you know when they burn you, if thats done properly it looks so good
i suppose theyr just like natural tatoos in a way

charcoalchild 03-08-2007 02:49 AM

Id never heard of it before... but actually its quite beautiful i think...

Crumple... 03-08-2007 03:06 AM

I think it's amazing, done right ofcourse. The cuts aren't very deep, it's done professionally.
People rip new holes in their body and shove metal bars through them, people get ink embedded into their skin, what's so bad about creating a scar for... decoration I guess.
Most certainly not a craze.

I'd much prefer this to tattooing I think, and I'm thinking about getting some in the future.

.ghost. 03-08-2007 09:17 AM

Like everyone else said, it's not really a craze, it's been around for ages.
It's not something I'd get done myself, but I don't really think it's that different to any other forms of body modifation.
Still, the idea of letting someone do that to me scares me a bit, so I think I'll just get some tattoos when I'm older...

Delephynite 05-08-2007 11:37 AM

I think it's a waste of money to be honest. Why pay someone to mutilate you when you can do it for free in your own bathroom?

Makes a brilliant self harm excuse though. "What's those scars?" "I was practising scarification. (Y)"

I'ts been around for a while.

I remember doing a star on my ankle years ago (when i was like 14)
it's faded now though.

Belt 05-08-2007 12:06 PM

I don't like it too much.
I don't know why.
It scares me.

Its people personal choice. All scars wont last forever so ins some ways it may apeal to people who dont want something like a tatoo there forever. It can look good if its done by someone who knows what they are doing, other wise it looks stupid.

On the other hand it does look quite painful to have done >_<

howlie, 05-08-2007 05:39 PM

Thats just a tad weird really

atropine 05-08-2007 06:32 PM

actually saw this on someones back (not in person!) and it looks really amazing. its just a tattoo without the ink.

each to their own, who cares if its a craze... piercings and tattoos are as much a craze. as long as people dont do it to themselves its okay i guess (yeah im disconnecting from self harm so no offence meant there!)

ke_nny 05-08-2007 09:11 PM

i've had some scarification done about 5 years ago's had it at the same tiem as soem branding the scarifaction has faded the branding is still as present as ever dout it will get fade that much more its really quite deep.

don't think they will become as popular as tattooing or piercing but they've been around at an age

Enelya 06-08-2007 07:53 PM

Um, Scarification has been existing for several years now, but okay.
I like some scarifications and have been thinking about getting one - havenīt decided yet, though.

Scarification has been around for centuries. It's just that it's only recently getting a lot more popular in the general community. I've seen some beautiful scarification work. Yes, it can be more dangerous because of infection but, just like any body mod, if the piercer and piercee know what they're doing, it's pretty safe. Yes, some are deep, such as ones that involve skin removal.
I don't think I would personally get any scar work done, mainly because the few keloid scars I already have give me so much trouble (itching, pain).
I don't think scarification is self harm, because it is done for aesthetic reasons.

akita 07-08-2007 10:54 AM

Its a stupid idea.
