Wrist injury
This is my first post, so I hope I'm doing things right. If I'm not, I apologize in advance!
Exactly a week ago I was involved in a fight. The other person grabbed my wrist and their thumb was shoved hard into it, right against the vein. Afterward my wrist swelled up a bit (for about a day) and every time I moved my fingers or my wrist I got an intense wave of nausea. I bandaged up my wrist to keep myself from moving it too much and, except for the nausea, everything seemed fine. Starting yesterday my wrist started to HURT. Moving my arm in any way causes a good amount of pain, so I've been taking the highest recommended amount of ibuprofen I can. It's helping, but not by much. What worries me the most is that I'm getting waves of numbness spreading from my wrist to my elbow. Every few minutes I lose the feeling in my arm for a few seconds before it gradually returns. I'm posting because I want to know if anyone has a clue on what is wrong with my wrist. What kind of injury do I likely have? What should I do to help it heal? Does it sound like something I need to see a doctor about? (Going to a doctor is pretty much out of the question, however) I'm really unsure of how to make this stop hurting so much. Any input would be greatly appreciated. |
I'm going to share something a doctor told me one "Bad injuries keep getting worse after 24 hours, while minor/moderate injuries start getting better"
So, since you have already wrapped it up, taken ibuprofen, and hopefully applied ice, and it's still getting worse, I think you are now into the "bad injury" category, and you need to be seen by a doctor. Because of the numbness it sounds like it's possible that you have damage to your tendons, ligaments or most importantly nerves. It may also be possible that some internal damage was done and it is putting excessive pressure on the structures that control your wrist. I don't think at this point that there is anything else you can do yourself, and you should go and get checked out. AD |
wrist injuries can be really bad... (and this is speaking from experience)
go get it checked by a gp asap, as you can have done un-imaginable amounts of damage I have one really bad wrist/hand injury which occoured whilst practising martial arts in september2004 that is still sore/annoying/really painful today from time to time. so the sooner you get checked out and get proper treatment the better |
Because of the replies I got, I decided to suck it up and go the the doctor's yesterday. It turns out that something in my wrist had been dislocated and had damaged the ligaments. I got it all taken care of and the doctor said it should eventually get better. I'm out a lot of money now, but it's worth it if I won't have permanent damage now. So, thanks you two for the advice.

I'm glad that you decided to see your doctor, and that he was able to find the problem. The money you spent now will be less then you would have spent in the future trying to get the problem corrected after it was too late.
Take care, and I hope it's feeling better. |
