bad period pain. very bad period pain.
I am in pain.
I sometimes get it this bad. Now is one of those times. Its really heavy, too. I have taken ibuprofen, but they are barely hitting the spot. I have a heated lavender wheatie bag, and that's helping a bit. But only a bit. I can't take any more painkillers yet and I feel awful. I'm going to have a lie down, see if that helps. I am nearly crying, and am feeling panicky about it. Help? |
*Lame e-hugs*.
I used to have terrible period pains, and now I'm on meds for them which really help. Could you get down to your doctors? Metaphoric acid is really good (but that has to be prescribed). I would suggest a hot bath, and lots of diet coke (which was originally a period pain killer). Music, night in, good film. Take care, periods suck. |
Thanks.
I'm trying to do some deep breathing, and a yoga pose thing. My dr's close at 6pm. :( The baby [my flatmates'] is in the bath right now. I might be able to get in there later though! I want to scream. Don't know about child birth, but this can't be far off that pain! When I was 17 I remember feeling like I was dying with the pain. This is similar. Its easing a bit, and thena huge wave comes over me again. |
You could try ringing NHS direct who can get you seen by an out of hours GP.
Other than that, maybe try some gentle exercise. I know you probably dont feel like exercising but it can help. Also if you often suffer from bad pains, I have heard some excellent reviews on the tens machines. Might be worth looking in to. Take care Kim |
Thanks.
Its eased off for now. That was scary while it was really bad. I was scared I'd bleed to death. I've managed dinner. Its just a dull throb now. What's a tens machine? |
A Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator, more commonly referred to as a TENS unit and pronounced tens, is an electronic device that produces electrical signals used to stimulate nerves through unbroken skin.
You can buy them now in large boots stores. However, it would probably be worth speaking to your GP first. There also used frequently for child birth. They apperntly block out some of the pain. Glad you feeling a little better. Take care Kim |
Thanks Kim.
I see a dr next Thursday [not my regular GP, but the other one I trust at my practice] so I'll ask her then. |
tens machine
hiya
I use a tens machine and they are awesome. I think there are some physiotherapy units that lend them out because they're quite expensive, it's worth asking your doctor. But you can get them from places like boots and pharmacies I think. They have an adjustable 'buzz' that tingles and you feel the tingling and not the pain. For period pain I'd say put the sticky pads on your lower back, one either side of your spine. I got put on all sorts of pills for period pains, they work for a couple of periods and then seem to give up giving pain relief, but I've found the tens machine really helpful. love&light xpeax |
Thanks. :)
