Panic Attacks?

Anyone know a way to get rid of really bad panic attacks. I've been having them on and off for about 2 hours and it feels like I'm dying. I've been clawing at my arm and chowing down tic tacs the whole time and I'm starting to feel sick.

I am not sure but hope that you are ok. Hang in there

Deep breathing. Breathe in for seven counts and out for eleven. Keep doing this until your breathing is under control.

Try to focus on other things, like the colour of things and how things look. Focus only on that and nothing else.

Listen to music through headphones to drown out any anxious thoughts.

I hope you're feeling better now (as I see you posted this two days ago)

I would recommend the next time you're having one to just drink water, caffeine and sugar wont help you much and can often make you feel worse when you're having a panic attack.

Try to get somewhere where you can sit down and are away from the public.
For me if I was out in the public I would try and get to a toilet cubicle.

Then just concentrate on getting your breathing to slow down.
Just try to regulate your breathing until it eventually slows down and you don't feel that flight or fight feeling.

When I'm at home and i'm having one I turn anything off like TV's or stereos and then just sit or lie down and again start concentrating on my breathing.

The best one I've heard and tried is to simply count your breaths, you lose count so you have to start over again...eventually you'll notice you're calming down.

I hope that helps in the future

Hope you are feeling better. I am a long time sufferer of panic attacks. I used to have them almost everyday. It sucked. Next time you have a panic attack, I'd reccommend a few things.

1. Breathe. Breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth. This is important, as it can help eleviate your physical symptoms (hyperventilation, numbness, dizzyness, etc.)

2. Keep reminding yourself that it is just a panic attack. It is nothing physical. It is in your head. You are in control.

3. If you have chronic problem with panic attacks and anxiety I'd reccommend talking to your psychiatrist about a prescription for Xanax. You can either do it daily or p.r.n. I take my xanax p.r.n. It stops panic attacks within minutes and helps you to calm down. It's been a huge help for me. I wouldn't be able to cope without it.

Take care, feel free to PM me if you have any questions or want to talk. I'm (unfortunately) a pro with anxiety and panic attacks.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I've been putting them to use and I've been a lot better now.

i had a panic attack just the other night. My friend got me to take deep breathes in and out of a paper bag... it helped quite a bit.
