CAMHS?
So I have a CAMHS appoinment on tuesday. I have no idea what to expect, Honestly I didn't even know what it stood for until like 5 minutes ago. Can anyone tell me what it's going to be like, what the psych might ask me, and what sort of stuff they might need to tell my mum?
thanks. |
Nice picture btw. POKEMON! :D
Sorry, anyway yeah, CAMHs, do you know why you have been sent there? Because if it's for self harm for example, they will ask you questions about that subject. With me, they asked what was troubling me and then they asked questions on that specific subject. They will need to tell your mum stuff that may put you i danger of yourself or others, but not everything. Hope this helps and PM me if you need anything. Good luck with CAMHs xx |
yeah, you gotta catch 'em all. *serious face* ;DD
heh so yeah, thanks heaps for your reply ;D, They don't know about my self harm yet, do you think they might need to let my mum know about that? She knows I've hurt myself before but she certainly doesn't know the extent of it :// |
They shouldn't tell your parents anything unless you're in serious danger, so don't be afraid to tlel them everything so they can properly help you, good luck :)

Heya
At your first appointment with CAMHS, they'll probably want to talk to you with your parent/guardian, with them on their own and with you on your own. At my first appointment, a social worker spoke to my mum whilst i spoke to the psych and then the social worker and psych went off to talk to each other to decide what would be the best plan of action. If you express that you are a danger to yourself then they may need to inform your mum. However, they should tell you they intend to do this beforehand. They will probably want to know about the reasons you have been referred to them and about what's happened in your life so far. They will understand if you are nervous and you will get a chance to ask any questions if you want to. If you really do not want your mum to know stuff, you could ask the psych what they would do in a hypothetical situation. For example, you could say 'if a person were to tell you they self harm would you have to inform their parents?'. However try not to keep stuff back from them because the more they know, the better they will be able to help. If you've got any questions, PM me and i'll do my best to help :) Good luck and let us know how it goes. xx |
Hey again, hope you're doing okay. If you tell them you self-harm they usually ask 'does your mum know?' But if she already knows, there will be a chance they do touch upon it again because it puts you in danger.
But I agree with the above post with the hypothetical situation, that's a good idea, then that means they might get a picture of whats wrong. PM anytime if you need help, let me know how it goes :) (p.s I had a togepi birthday cake lol so we are both very cool with our pokemon XD) xx |
Thankyouthankyouthankyou everyone, I'll come back tomorrow and tell you all about it >.>
(I just squealed at the thought of a togepi birthday cake ^^) |
Okay, hope it goes well!
:) xx |
i hope it goes well, try not to worry about it too much.
it will just be a bit of getting to know you and finding out about what is going on for you so they can tell how they can help you best. xxx |

Thats really great you could tell them about the SH. I used to be in CAMHS too, but only really when i was in hospital.
|
Hey, I've been seeing CAMHS since I was 7, usually they ask the basics about you first, get to know you, then they'll try and see how best to help you.
I'm glad it went well.. . :) |
Well done!

Psych will probably ask you questions like how you've been feeling in yourself, sleeping && eating habits, what's going on, ect.
I think they will only tell your Mum what you've said if your a danger to yourself (e.g. you're suicidal and/or self-harming). Though it should be fine. Hope it's alright. xo. |
