When do you finish, Beckie?
It'll be bedtime before you know it, Tamo! Get yourself all toasty, Dawn. :-D |
I have finished!
Just under an hour early. It is so dead! I'm oddly tired! It was snowing earlier apparently. And it's freezing outside. |
Get nice and cosy inside if you can although that might make you more tired. Have you got anything you need to do?
|
I have a coffee now. I am considering going to the city centre tomorrow unless it's icy.
|
I detest having to go downtown, Dawn so if it's the same for you i really sympathise. If it's not, then i hope you have fun :)
I made a veggie Chow mein for dinner. Very yummy!!! I kind of wanted to eat a lot more of it but then i wouldn't have enough for several days AND i'd end up feeling incredibly rubbish as that always happens when i eat too much in one go… I went to a grocery store i don't use very often and much to my pleasant surprise i discovered they carry alcohol free wine :D I rarely ever have it because most shops don't sell it so i never bother to look for it. And it's not something i fancy drinking very often. One of my uncles died late this afternoon. He has been sick for a while so it was expected and i am rather thankful it happened so fast because he was definetely not okay and in a lot of pain. But it makes me sad as Well. |
Just got home. Put the heating on before i left work so it's already nice and warm.
All i need to do is shower now. I wasn't going to but looked in the mirror at work and my hair is a state! Oooh alcohol free wine! We have 0% alcohol prosecco, gin, vodka and beer at work but not wine! Sorry for your loss zurg. *hugs if wanted* |

Veggie Chow Mein sounds delicious Zurg! What veggies did you put on it? Sorry for your loss it always hurts when someone we care about dies even if it might be the better thing for them. |
Sorry for your loss Zurg.
|
Sorry to disappoint you but most alcohol free wine tastes disgusting. Better off with alcohol free beer or prosecco as they taste nice.
Sorry for your loss zurg. |
Just wanted to stick my head in and say sorry for your loss Zurg. I hope you are doing OK.

It's funny, sometimes people's tastes are different to other people's, it's a baffling phenomenon. |
I like alcohol free mulled wine. We had some at Christmas
|
Alcohol free wine just tastes like grape juice to me. But I like grape juice and having it in a wine bottle makes me feel fancy.
|
On the topic of grape juice I quite like schloer which is basically fizzy grape juice.
Feelin fancy is fun *raises top hat* |
I've been serving a lot of alcohol free G&Ts lately.
Only thing is, it comes through as 'tanquery af' on tickets and on the till. So I automatically say 'tanquery as f*ck' when i have to make one.... Guess people are doing 'dry January' Though I did have to make a pornstar martini today. Unusual for a monday lunchtime! But hey, why not?! They always got us shloer for special occasions in my adolescent unit! Lol |
My mum (who doesn’t drink a lot and also doesn’t really say the word ‘porn’ out loud) is obsessed with pornstar martinis at the moment!
|
omg omg omg your mum just keeps getting more legendary
I'm trying to imagine her asking for a pornstar martini at a bar |
Not sure about the dry January thing it's good in principle (although not so much for bar staff revenue wise) but I think some people treat it as a free pass to drink as much us they want th other 11 months the year rather than just sticking to moderation the whole time.
What goes in a pornstar martini? I know a regular martini but I have never had a pornstar one My mum got me schloer for Christmas Dinner this year as I don't want to risk drinking alcohol when my legs randomly give out when I am sober these days. |

Hahaha!
Does she do that thing that they do in Miranda and say one bit of the word really quietly? They are delicious tbh. And they come with a shot of prosecco! A pornstar martini is just vanilla vodka and passion fruit martini juice/mix type thing. With a prosecco shot. And a raspberry om a stick but we never have any frickin raspberries. I have so far managed to avoid saying it directly in front of a customer. Though we can all be very loud so the customers probably hear a lot of questionable things from us Like someone shouting 'Don't brush your boobs against me, I'm not a lesbian!' When there was a customer literally right there.... |

Ninja posting! That sounds hilarious, my mum is also the kind of mum who doesn't say the word porn much, does she whisper her order or say it loud and proud?
|
Thank you all for your kind words <3
It is sad because he was a kind man and his two sons now have to face a life without him. I used to see my family quite often when i grew up but as i became older and my mind became a lot more troubled i just withdrew so there's a lot of them i haven't seen more than 4 or 5 times the last twenty years. I do enjoy alcohol free wine. Mostly because i sometimes crave or miss the taste of wine but don't want to tempt fate by trying the actual thing!!! It took an awful lot of years to get free of addiction and it was such a horrible ordeal that i really don't want to risk having to repeat it!!! Jen, the veggie Chow mein had red pepper, onions, carrots, soy beans and what Google informs me is called 'pointed cabbage' in english, which is more or less a pretty accurate Translation, lol. And you boil noodles and add them to the dish in the wok along with the sauce :D Oh, and garlic of course!!! Which just so happens to make you repel all vampires for the rest of the day. So pretty much a win-win!!! |

I had orange juice and fizzy water when the others had bucks fizz. Did you drink it from a fancy glass? |
Quote:
Do you make your own sauce or use a packet one? Scare away the vampires the chow mein is all yours! |
It's always sad when kids are involved
I'm the same with my family. Well, dad's side anyway. Saw them all at his funeral, first time in many many years. Sounds sensible to stick with alcohol free! Can be a slippery slope |

It might be. *Waits patiently for Zurg to confirm*
Trying to distract myself as mind is playing tricks on me. It's my 30t birthday next month which is kind of cool I My plan from when I was bored in the pandemic was to hire a bouncy castle but I think I'd probably break something |
A bouncy castle would be awesome tbh!
|
I have always wanted to hire one. I am not 100% that it would fit in my garden. Also February might not be the best time of year. Maybe if I feel more active next year I will hire one then but I might have to hire a hall as well.

Morning all :)
Jen and Dawn, sorry to disappoint you but i was just thinking of the danish name for pointed cabbage which is 'spidskaal' ;) Jen, the recipe told how to make the sauce and what to put in it. Making Asien type of sauces is surprisingly easy and they are really tasty!!! How is everyone??? Bun-bun is sending me evil stares as i'm sure he feels i haven't fed him nearly enough for his morning noms…. |
I googled and the translations it's coming up with is scallions, white cabbage or spring cabbage.
Morning! Oh bless him! I get that from the guinea pigs. Because clearly they haven't been fed in WEEKS and are positively wasting away! I'm ok. Though it is -5 and I have lots to do today! |
Brrr… -5 doesn't Sound very pleasant!!! It's not as cold here but quite windy and rainy.
What shenanigans are you getting up to today, Beckie??? I am most curious!!! Google told me scallions too but i dismissed that because i thought it might have had a stroke. To me, scallions, sounds like a disease pirates would bengetting some hundred of years ago, lol |
Gym, pilates, glow beatz, post office, asda, washing. I think that's it!
It does! It is a weird name tbh. Did you know the new variant of covid is called Kraken? Like the rum. Or mythical giant squid. I think they're taking the piss now |
Awesome!!! “Sorry boss, can't work today, the kraken Got me!!!” XD
|
Exactly! XD
Except you can go into work with covid now. So not really a valid excuse anymore! |
Working peoples' Rights and conditions have seriously deteorirated!!! Not even getting a day off even if the kraken Got you!!!! Rude!!! >:(
|
Morning everyone.
Sorry for your loss, Kat. Here if you need to talk or whatever. Just popping on quickly, I need to go to the gym group today which will take away a lot of my internet time which is unfair! I hope you all have a good day. |
I know!
Have fun at the gym group lindsay! I went to the post office but they couldn't top up my key because my ID wasn't valid. I used my provisional licence which expired last year. They've accepted it before and my identity hasn't changed in the last year but oh well! I'll just go back later with my passport. Luckily it's only a 10 min walk and I need to go into town again later anyway. Still fairly annoying though! I also forgot to pick up my new glasses. Will have to do that later too! |
Interestingly I think scallions is the American English name for spring onions. Hence why it may not have sounded right. I have now learnt my first danish word although I don't know exactly what it is describing hmmmm....
The kraken is a funny name for a new variant. I thought they were sticking to Greek letters. It's really is a two tiered system with sick pay now, at my work (which I am on prolonged leave from) if you were feeling to ill to work because you had the kraken you could take the day off sick on full pay but there has always been a pressure from some people to just work from home unless you are dying. Whereas with new rules a lot of people wouldn't even get statutory sick pay for taking a day off because the kraken was nomming on their immune system! Eurgh to post office suddenly not accepting expired ID, I don't have a driving license and my passport expired last year so when I got top up voucher I had to get my partner to take the water bill and a bank statement. New glasses are fun. with new prescriptions I find the world is weirdly high definition for a few days until I get used to it. |
Afternoon everyone :)
|
I don't know the rules around sick pay at my work!
I got it when I was in hospital last year. I don't think I got it when I was off with covid in 2021 though. Still had to isolate for 2 weeks then. Yeah it was annoying. Also, the big boss and one of the managers were also in there! Big boss said they were robbing the post office XD Yeah probably will be weird! My eyes get worse every eye test. I'm on 18 month checks now. And I need my lenses thinned! |
Eurgh why is sick pay so complicated...
Lol at the big boss saying they were robbing the post office. Maybe they were gettin money out?? Welcome to the club (it's an expensive club that makes it fancy right?) I have needed my lens thinned for years. Mind you I probably have a glasses headstart on you as I have been wearing them for since I was for so like 26 years. Mine need thinning because of my rugby ball shaped eyeballs (astigmatism) |
Possibly.
The higher up managers are always going to the bank and post office. It is expensive! But according to my mum, you get free eye tests if you say you have a family history of glaucoma. She did it by accident because she got glaucoma and cataracts mixed up but then she didn't have to pay for the test. I've only needed glasses since I was 18. So only 13 years! Mine need thinning because my prescription is now very high. |
P s. Afternoon tambohuuta! How are you doing today?
|
Maybe they really are casing the joint to rob it then!
My prescription is around -3. But I got lucky as my Mum has always had around -20 and that was before her sight got worse around 20 years ago and she became legally partially sighted. Huh I still had to pay and I have a family history of glaucoma maybe it's only a close family thing my grandparents did but my parents/sibling haven't |
Possibly!
I can't remember what mine is. My left eye is a lot worse than the right for some reason. Weird! I think she said one of her parents had it, so could be close relatives. Or maybe only certain opticians? I think i might make some banana bread again |
Who knows glad your mum gamed the system and got it free though!
Do it. Banana bread is delicious. We get our shopping from click and collect and my bananas are sadly entirely green this week and as such inedible. I am having a fish finger sandwich for lunch in a minute. |
Banana bread is in the oven!
Ahh that is sad! Fish finger sandwiches are awesome. We do them at work. I had one on my break last week! |
