Morning.

It's the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Dawn. I don't know if that makes any difference. But I'd drive anyway and leave early to book into a hotel beforehand and then drive back the next morning so that wouldnt be a problem.

I had to make an emergency trip to Tesco this morning and I think the entire world was in there stocking up on supplies for the next three days. Never seen it so busy, it was like Christmas levels of busy.

I'm just doing laundry and not a lot else today.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 11:33 AM

Everyone buying bbq stuff? Or many, many bags of ice?? And ice cream??

Same. My laundry has just finished. Will put it away soon.

nonperson 17-07-2022 11:36 AM

I did overhear someone talking about firelighters so yep probably mostly BBQ stuff. Although I'm sure anything dry will just spontaneously combust outside so no need for firelighters really. The freezer section did look rammed too. And everyone had bought all the watermelon.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 11:39 AM

Most likely!

Cold watermelon is good in this weather!

I was considering going to asda but it's too hot and it will be busy

tamobhuuta 17-07-2022 11:45 AM

I only need to go out for Mass today and that's not till 5pm, so I am hoping to spend the day reading in the shade.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 11:46 AM

Sounds good

nonperson 17-07-2022 12:14 PM

That sounds relaxing, tamo.

Definitely don't go to Asda. Will you need to go in the next couple of days though? It will be worse then but maybe not so busy if people are at work.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 12:48 PM

I'll probably have to go on Tuesday.
Hopefully it won't be too busy

nonperson 17-07-2022 01:19 PM

Tuesday is meant to be cooler too.

I mean, by like 1 degree, but let's look for the positives here >.>

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 01:23 PM

Really hope so!
Otherwise i may just go into work and camp out under the air con!
On Monday and Tuesday they are closing the kitchen from 2:30-5:30 to get the chefs out of the furnace of a kitchen at the hottest part of the day!

nonperson 17-07-2022 01:31 PM

That's really sensible. I'm glad they're doing that. I think I have it bad at work but I'd take my job over working in a kitchen in this weather. Must be unbearable and also maybe a bit unhygienic.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 01:41 PM

I would HATE to work in a kitchen! I found it unbearable just being a runner, having to stand in the kitchen waiting for food to run! Luckily i don't have to do that anymore!

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 02:05 PM

Hey everyone.

It wasn't too bad heat wise when I went out earlier. I just went out to get onions to make a casserole which I know is not a summer food really.

nonperson 17-07-2022 02:15 PM

Doesn't mean it can't be eaten in summer!

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 02:17 PM

I think I impulsively put diced beef my Asda order because I never know what to cook.

How are you getting on NP?

nonperson 17-07-2022 02:23 PM

I never know either and impulsively buy random veg and then have to do something with it before it goes off. Going to try and make an improvised aubergine, onion and tomato curry tonight.

Meh. I'm tired and feel a bit sick. And I think the cat is going to have another anal sac burst so it's looking like we'll be at the vets tomorrow.

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 02:29 PM

Sounds like a good plan, I hope you enjoy it. I bought tons of veg for lunch time salads.

I'm sorry you're not feeling too great. Does anything help?

Oh no, poor Geordie. Is your vet open on Sundays?

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 02:30 PM

Are you keeping adequately hydrated np?

Poor Geordi :(

I've just put washing away and changed bed sheets.
Sweating buckets!

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 02:34 PM

I did that earlier, Beckie. Plus some more housework. I felt like giving up when I was changing my bedding because of lack of energy. Well done for not giving up on your stuff. You'll need to have a rest now.

nonperson 17-07-2022 02:37 PM

I'm not sure what would help. Not entirely sure what the problem is. I'm trying to keep hydrated, Beckie. I tend to forget at home but drink tonnes at work.

The vet is open for an hour on Sundays so it would be an emergency visit if I went now and I nearly passed out from the cost the last time I went on a bank holiday. Feel a bit bad that I'm making him wait, especially for money reasons, but I think it's better for it to burst first, then they can clean it up properly. They'd only be able to start him on antibiotics today but that probably won't work quickly enough to stop it exploding. I'm finishing work really early tomorrow though so I'll call in the morning and make an appointment. I dunno why this keeps happening =(

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 02:40 PM

Thanks lindsay!
Well done to you too!

Drink lots np!

I'm sure he'll be ok until tomorrow.
Are there any investigations they can do?

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 02:41 PM

How many times has he burst an anal gland? Crookshanks has burst his twice. It sounds ok to wait until tomorrow to take Geordie to the vet.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 02:42 PM

I have Sweet Caroline in my head.
It's really annoying
#offtopic

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 02:43 PM

I don't know if I know the lyrics to that so I'm safe from an ear worm!

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 02:50 PM

I basically just know the one line!
That makes it EXTRA annoying!

nonperson 17-07-2022 02:50 PM

Sweeeeet Caroliiiiine, bah bah bah.

Thanks for that Beckie >.<

Lindsay, he's burst it a few times now. Once years ago but this will be the third time this year I think? The vet suggested no wet food to make his poops harder which helps to clear the glands when he goes. But he never has wet food anyway. Maybe I need to change his dry food to something with more fibre, I dunno.

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 02:55 PM

Oh no, thanks NP now I also have that line in my head because you clarified the song!

You'll need to discuss it with the vet NP and hopefully find something that can prevent it happening again. They might tell you to feed him expensive food though. Crookshanks is already on expensive food but I might ask if I can put him onto the less expensive stuff.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 02:58 PM

Sorry guys!

Pet ownership sounds very stressful

nonperson 17-07-2022 03:22 PM

Sorry, Lindsay =P

I've just done some food research and think I'll swap him back on to the light version and what he has now. I stopped using it after he lost some weight but his weight has gone up again (but he's still not overweight) and apparently that can make it more likely for the sacs to burst. And the light food has a lot more fibre in than the normal stuff. I don't want to be getting special food from the vets =/

Apparently it's not very common in cats!

It can be stressful Beckie, but the benefits outweigh the stressful times =)

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 03:29 PM

Hopefully that will help!

Yes I'm sure they do :)

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 04:52 PM

What brand do you use NP? I've been using Hills because they are tailored to certain things but they are expensive. Now Crookshanks isn't overweight any more the vet said to use the senior Hills but keep a note of his weight over time and phone and let them know what his weight is.

If you could have a pet, Beckie, what would it be?

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 05:21 PM

Hmmm. I'm not sure!
I'm more of a dog person than a cat person but i don't think i have enough time or space for a dog. Cats are more self sufficient but i would worry about a cat stinking up the house with a litter tray! My house is very small

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 06:02 PM

You'd have to stick to a hamster then!

How are you this evening?

I just watched the met office weather forecast and it sounds scary. Make sure you're all looking after yourselves.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 06:08 PM

Not a huge fan of hamsters!
Guinea pigs might be nice though!
I love the little squeaky noise they make!

I'm ok. Had an amazon delivery and showered.
Nothing left to do for the day!

Yep, 39 tomorrow and 40 on Tuesday apparently.
It is not going to be nice

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 06:11 PM

Well done for getting all your daily stuff done. Will you just be relaxing and maybe watching some TV or something now?

I think it's meant to be a tiny bit less hot here, but I'm worried about all of you in England with the further extreme heat. I'm not planning on leaving the house tomorrow but I'll have to on Tuesday.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 06:18 PM

Thanks!
Need to take recycling and kitchen bin out but i can do that whenever.

I hope it's not too bad in Scotland lindsay! Stay hydrated and in the shade!

I'll be ok tomorrow because of the air con. The walk there won't be great though! I do have a new skirt for work and cotton cycling shorts to go under it so that will probably help.
Tuesday i have to run some errands so that's not going to be fun! Glow beatz is cancelled and she's doing fitness pilates instead because it's too dangerous to do glow beatz.

nonperson 17-07-2022 06:26 PM

I get James Wellbeloved, Lindsay. Geordi should technically be on senior food I think? He's turning 10 in December.

Guinea pigs are very cute little pets! I like their squeaking too and when you cuddle them they make a little trembly sort of purr noise. Plus they're really funny when they get the zoomies and run around together.

nonperson 17-07-2022 06:27 PM

Surely any exercise tomorrow is too dangerous?

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 06:31 PM

How long is your walk to work Beckie? I hope you'll be ok on Tuesday too.

I think senior is 11 plus. He's probably classed as mature.

I can't spell * pigs but I agree they make cute noises.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 06:32 PM

Yesss! Aww i desperately want a couple of guinea pigs now!

Maybe. We shall see!
She might end up cancelling it

Ninja post lindsay!

My walk to work is 30-40 mins

one_step_closer 17-07-2022 06:35 PM

That's a long walk in the heat. Stay safe.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 06:58 PM

It is. I start work at 10:30 instead of 12 though so hopefully it won't be at its hottest when i leave!

nonperson 17-07-2022 06:59 PM

Oh yeah I forgot there was a mature age too.

How is it suddenly 7pm? O.o

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 07:05 PM

The first part of the day really dragged but i was surprised that it's 7pm too!

nonperson 17-07-2022 07:14 PM

Same. Weird...

I think I'm getting confused by the outside clock nearby that chimes on the hour too. It's broken again and seems to randomly choose how many chimes it makes.

Cacoethes 17-07-2022 07:21 PM

Ah yes. I can see why that would be confusing!

not_so_insig 18-07-2022 12:36 AM

Hope they fix it. My local clock was broken for 12 years. Now it chimes every 15 minutes from 6 am to 10 pm. It has done so since it was installed 90 odd years ago.

Cacoethes 18-07-2022 06:43 AM

Morning everyone!

not_so_insig 18-07-2022 10:06 AM

Gosh Beckie you were up early! How's be you?

not_so_insig 18-07-2022 10:15 AM

Bloody hell it's hot. My phone is saying it's 27 degrees right now.
