I've still got a pumpkin I need to make soup from.
Glad your mum is supportive and so lovely Aubergine.
Pumpkin soup sounds nice.
Whoop, nearly time for Graham Norton.
Nope, never had pumpkin either. I wouldn't really know what to do with one and I don't celebrate Halloween.
Oh Tom Cruise is on tonight, more interested in seeing Simon Pegg, though.
I like Graham Norton. Think I’ll probably go to bed soon. Very tired.
Thanks. :) Mum is lovely. I don't know how she works at the hospice. I serve adult palliative patients at work and that's hard enough. My Mum is probably the most level headed person I know though. I think I've also given her a lot of practice when it comes to staying calm in difficult situations, too. :P
I'm told that small pumpkins taste nicer? I use a lot of butternut squash and sweet potato, as Asda do frozen cubes of them that you can roast/boil/soupify. i'm such a lazy cook! |
I think I'll be up for at least another 12 hours. I did an all nighter last night as well and had jobs to do today. I've got a Burn's Supper to help out with at church tomorrow night, I should probably try to sleep for a few hours before I go.
Yeah you don't want to eat the big monster pumpkins. I have a small blue one that is super tasty. I did a thai pumpkin soup in the autumn and I think I'll do the same again because it was amazing.
I'm a bit pumpkin obsessed to be honest. >.> |
Your mum sounds awesome. My sister is a cardiology nurse but she’s interested in palliative nursing. I don’t think I could do it and I admire her for it. We lost our mum to cancer. The nurses were fantastic. I couldn’t do that job so I respect my sister for it.
My mother is suffering from terminal lung cancer. She's on oxygen now and in and out of hospital, it's getting to the end stage. I feel terrible for all the hassle I've caused her with my insanity but I've apologised and she said there's no need to. It's just hard to watch when there's absolutely nothing you can do.
Admittedly I buy diced carrots and turnip for cooking, I can't be bothered with the chopping malarkay. |
Freeatlast if you ever need someone to talk to I’m only a pm away. I know how hard it is and I’m here if you need someone to talk to.
I buy the diced stuff too. |
I'm glad I'm not alone with buying diced stuff! I just really, really struggle with cooking! It's better than living on chocolate though, right?! (Though I do love chocolate. Really fancy some dark chocolate, but alas, I have already had a blueberry muffin tonight.)
I'm sorry about your Mums. I offer to lend mine to my best friend sometimes. You can borrow mine too. Her name is A and she gives good hugs. She also gives good talkings to, in a kind way, if you are not helping yourself. So be prepared! :) |
When my mother was diagnosed my life went into freefall. Thanks for your offer, I might have to take you up on it. Part of the reason I returned to this site is because I know she's going to die soon and other than take drugs I don't know what else to do.
I just had a chocolate mousse with dark chocolate chips on top. >.>
Thanks, Aubergine. :0)
I would love to borrow your mum. She sounds fantastic.
I love chocolate too! Keep talking freeatlast. Let people help you and again I’m here. It’s good to have someone who understands because it can feel very lonely. |
Ooooh chocolate mousse.
I might open another of my Christmas chocolates! |
Is this what ordinary folk do on Friday nights? Eat all sorts of marvellous food and watch Graham Norton and QI?
I am jealous, Person! I have Bournville chocolate in the fridge. I put it in there so I'd stop staring at it...
*Sends A to people who need a Mum hug right now* |
It's what I do.
I'm not ordinary. =) |
My mum was diagnosed about 4 years ago with throat cancer, then it was neck cancer and then it was metastatic lung cancer. I thought cancer was an isolated thing, you went into remission and then got on with life, I feel as though I should have seen it coming. Instead of being supportive I went on the rampage for a year.
Aubergine in that case I will send Molly to give you kitty hugs.
*hugs freeatlast*
On Friday nights, I tend to sit on my bed, listen to music, and enjoy the great company here. I will usually phone my Mum and my best friend, too. :) Am I ordinary? Probably not, but I don't really know anyone who is. I've done similar since I was about 20. :)
Thank you, Lorraine. :) I love kitty hugs, especially from a kitty as cute as Molly. :)
According to my psychiatrist my mother becoming ill was one of the major factors in me becoming unwell because of our "difficult" relationship. When I was sectioned I wrote her a letter, I really regret doing it but everything I said in it I meant at the time. She's apologised and I've apologised, we're now at the stage where there's no sorries left to say.
I live at home, it makes it worse because I need to watch it happening and my brother moans about me but he doesn't have to deal with it. He just appears when it suits him. I'm going to stop before I end up ranting on about it. |
Your Friday nights sound better than mine. Next Friday I'll be sober and join in the feast. It's quite enjoyable just chatting with random strangers.
My Friday nights are nice. :) You are very welcome to join in. It's nice to have you. I like chatting with people too, but I don't see them as strangers anymore. Hopefully it won't be too long before you don't see us as strangers either. :)
Thanks, it's nice being here. You seem like a decent bunch, it's all very harmless here. Did anyone ever come to this site when it was ruinyourlife.com? Or did anyone ever go to that site?
I still consider myself a bit of a newbie here (and I am really!) but feel quite comfortable with people here now, because everyone's awesome and welcoming and this thread is mostly about food which helps. =)
It was basically a site for self harmers to share pictures of their wounds and scars and write fan fiction about harming themselves and others. It was like this site except with no focus on 'recovery' - extremely morbid stuff.
Food tends to come up a lot from what I've seen but we've also had Stephen Fry, the royal boroughs and botany. And travel. It's quite varied. :D
I enjoy spending my fridays here too. I consider everyone that uses this thread as my friends.
The big question is, do I open a chocolate orange, or do I eat a chocolate liqueur? |
There were lots of those sites back in the day. Now forums like this are losing popularity.
CHOCOLATE ORANGE!!!!
Sorry. That was a bit of an outburst... o.o
Oh now I do like a chocolate orange but they're massive. Personally, I'd go for a chocolate liqueur so long as it doesn't involve brandy.
They're not that big. Could easily eat a whole chocolate orange in one go.
I can't believe you still have one unopened, Lorraine!! |
I’m quite tempted by the chocolate liqueurs. They are a mix. Some with cognac, amaretto and vodka. I think I’ll have a couple then head to head.
That's what I mean, once it's opened there's no going back. My favourite chocolate has to be a Fry's peppermint cream. Anything with chocolate and mint.
I was given heaps of chocolates, so that’s the only reason I still have it.
Ooh mint chocolate is lush!
I make a nice chocolate mint traybake. Was thinking about making it today.
That sounds yummy!
Argh! Would it be really bad to have a square of Bournville?! Chocolate...
Your present buyers are fantastic, Lorraine! :D (Person, you're not new anymore. :P) (Lorraine, I consider you a friend too. :) ) |
I joined slimming world a week ago on Monday and I've done well losing weight but I've cut out most food groups. I'll be back to my normal weight in about a fortnight. I gained it rapidly but I can lose it just as quickly.
Yay, I've integrated!
Aww thanks Aubergine.
I agree Nonperson isn’t new. You’re one of us! Go on Aubergine. Eat some chocolate! |
