Ooooh pretty

The entropy of a system may decrease, but the entropy of the system plus its
surroundings must always increase. Highly ordered living organisms do not violate the
second law because they are open systems. For example, animals:
- Maintain highly ordered structure at the expense of increased entropy of their
surroundings.
- Take in complex high energy molecules as food and extract chemical energy to
create and maintain order.
- Return to the surroundings simpler low energy molecules (C02 and water) and
heat.
Energy can be transformed, but part of it is dissipated as heat which is largely
unavailable to do work. Heat energy can perform work if there is a heat gradient
resulting in heat flow from warmer to cooler. Combining the first and second laws; the
quantity of energy in the universe is constant, but its quality (which form) is not.

^ awesome! i like the concept of entropy.

Me too, haha, I guess I'm a geek.

ravynsoul 11-05-2009 01:58 AM

lol :) nothing wrong with that! :P Embrace your inner geek :)

You're right! :) *embraces geekiness* :P

I'm a geek too!!! I have a poster of the periodic table of elements up in my bedroom and it so overly excites me, like ALL the time!

I didn't think I did either. Maybe I needed the distraction

seriously, i take additional chemistry and even i dont get that excited about elements.
however, if we were talking about the theory of evolution...well...that would be a different matter

*superglues thread*

ravynsoul 11-05-2009 10:59 PM
