Our old springer used to go after birds!
Got a few of our chickens :ermm: |
Poor chickens. =(
|
Nothing compared to what the fox did though!
Got about 20 of them in one night! Country life sucks sometimes! |
Oh I've seen what foxes do to chickens!
Last year my boss' chickens were keeping me company at work, there was a rooster, a brown one and three other white ones... and now there's only a white one and the brown one left. =( I think I'd have cried if the brown one was killed though, she's my favourite. |
Yep it's nasty!
Aww! I had a favouite chicken too. She was called Blue. Because she was blue/grey in colour! Unfortunately she was eaten! One of our others though, Red, she outlived ALL of them! She survived fox attacks, dog attacks, duck attacks (our ducks did not like her) and she was even lost for about a week but she just came sauntering back! She was indestructible! |
Indestructible chicken!
|
She was!
|
Wow!
And haha, I call the brown one at work Brown or Brownie and the white one Blondie. So imaginative. =P |
Haha! Yes all our chickens were similarly named.
But tbh when you've got over 20, its quite hard to get names for them all! Apart from at the time of a general election, where our newest 3 chickens were named Cameron, Brown and Cl-egg |
Cl-egg...!!! *groan!*
|
We were hilarious :p
|
Clearly..!
|
Haha!
|
I wish I had a garden.
I would totally get some chickens! |
I have a big enough garden but wouldn't be able to let them run free because of the cat. =/
|
You can get some really nice chicken coops with big outside attachments!
Chickens are great. And the free eggs every day is good!! |
My friend has chickens and she often gives me fresh eggs. They're so awesome.
|
I worry about keeping them healthy though. Everyone who keeps chickens here seem to get that scaley leg thing. =/
|
Hmm. That's strange, Person. Is there anything you can do to prevent it?
|
I thought chickens had scaly legs to start with?
|
None of ours had that.
Although one of our chicks was born with a splayed leg. My mum made a little splint for it with an ice lolly stick. They are pretty easy to look after! |
I'm not sure really. I think my colleague was using a sort of spot-on treatment, much like the spot-on flea treatment for cats.
|
I think it's a disease called "Scaly Leg", little mites get under the scales of their legs and it makes it painful for them to walk. I dunno.
|
oh, poor chucks
|
I do like chickens a lot though but never having owned them before I don't think I'd feel confident knowing what I was doing with them!
|
There are probably a ton of FB groups/other online groups about looking after chickens.
Might be a good place to start with advice for beginners! I'm off to bed now guys Night night! |
Night night, Beckie. Sleep well.
|
Night Beckie.
|
Goodnight Beckie.
I really don't want to sleep tonight. =( |
How come, Person?
|
Don't want to go to work tomorrow.
|
Oh. what's making you not want to go?
I also have work tomorrow that I'm a bit anxious about. |
I'm on my own tomorrow and find it hard to get motivated. But my supervisor is off for a couple of weeks so I should be able to just get on with what I need to do without being interrupted.
But I just don't want to have to get out of bed... Sorry for whinging. How long are you working for tomorrow? |
No need to apologise. Early mornings are tough.
I'm working for two hours, which should be manageable. Then Tuesday I'm doing two and a half hours. And the same on Friday. |
Its ok np. Getting out of bed is so so hard, especially on Mondays!
I hope work goes ok for you too aubergine. Shall be thinking of you both. <3 |
I've been up at 7 both days this weekend to walk my neighbour's dog so no rest. x.x
I'm sure you'll do great Aubergine! Your work sound really supportive. And thanks, Lillie. I think I read you're off until Wednesday? =D |
Thank you, Lillie. :)
My work are great. So supportive. That's why I'm still employed, I think. Wouldn't cope with non-suppotive Collins. |
It's because they know how good you are at your job. You're really valuable to them so that's why they support you so much.
|
NP is correct aubergine!
I am off until wednesday but have the drs at 9:55 tomorrow and the hospital at 1:30, then tuesday I have my psychiatrist at like 3 ish. So no rest. |
Aww thanks, Person. I do try my best to do a good job and I'm told that I do it very well. When my Mum went into my work to tell them I was in hospital, the deputy manager told her that my knowledge of counseling points is better than some pharmacists. That was nice to hear!
|
Thank you too, Lillie. Oh my, you have got a busy couple of days. I hope all of your appointments go well.
|
Sorry you haven't got nice things planned on your days off, Lillie. =(
I'm attempting dinner... a bit late. |
Awwh that must have been amazing to hear aubergine!
Better late than never NP. What're you making? |
It is late for dinner! What are you having?
|
The crumble I had earlier filled me up for ages, heh.
Not making anything, just microwaved some saag aloo that I was going to have with my other microwaveable curry items. |
Microwave meals are handy sometimes. I hope you enjoy it.
|
It was alright... Filled a hole!
|
I'm glad it filled a hole! I'm pretty hungry too, actually. Might have some more cereal.
|
Don't you find that long life milk has a strange taste?
|
Where did the comment about UHT milk come from?!
(also yes) |
