I actually am. Bit nervous as well-don't whether to dress how I would anyway or make an effort to look uber normal :P It'll be nice seeing the support worker who is also taking the course though, she had to stop supporting me after she broke her ankle badly as she couldn't be putting the wheelchair in and out of cars and stuff. We get on really well and I've missed her and at least this way I'll see her at least once a week. Plus someone else to get lost trying to find the right room with :P
|
That's good you'll have a familiar face. What is the course?
Just dress comfortable. Wear something you like that makes you happy. |
Thanks. 'll check the charity places!
Thats ridiculous katy!! They are so incompetent I hope it gets sorted soon College is exciting katy!! It'll be good to already know someone on the course. And dress how you want!! Your clothes are awesome |
Counselling level 2 (don't know what happened to level 1? :P). Once I have this I'm going to save to do the course that will get me a qualification in sign language to eventually (years down the line) put the two together to eventually be a counsellor who is fluent in sign language as I think it so important for deaf/none verbal people to be able to access MH support without the added awkwardness of counselling, person + interpreter.
|
Katy and Beckie I'm excited for you both! Also any time either of you would like a proofreader or anything then let me know, I enjoy that stuff!
Katy I would say wear what you like - students I know wear all sorts. Beckie good luck finding a desk! I find it makes a big difference having one. I ikea-hacked myself a standing desk out of kitchen shelves and a wardrobe door because I couldn't find one I liked, and I love it. Lorraine I've had an indoors day too even though I meant to go to Sainsbury's. Oh well. It's allowed. I hope you enjoy your drawing :) Rebecca how was your weekend away? |
That's fantastic Katy! I wish you all the success. I always meant to study sign language, because when I worked as an artist doing community groups I'd work with people with various disabilities where sign language would have been helpful.
|
Hi Eska. Thanks. How are you?
|
Also Rebecca, I hope your time away went well.
|
Also Katy that's an awesome goal to have, and I'm in awe of anyone who can learn sign language because I find it ridiculously difficult to remember!
|
Thats a brilliant goal to have katy!!
I wish I was able to make my own desk eska. That is impressive!! |
Ninja post Lorraine!
I'm ok. I seem to have spent most of today asleep. I'm slightly frustrated with myself for avoiding the shop (ED reasons) but hey, there's always tomorrow. |
Beckie - thank you! It was a lot of fun. It's currently at my friend's house covered in his electronics stuff so I need to get him to clear it off when I move back in so I can use it again!
|
Tomorrow is a new day and maybe you can set yourself a goal of going to the shop tomorrow. Is there anything that will help you achieve it?
|
You need to post a picture of it eska!!
I agree with Lorraine, tomorrow is a new day! |
Making a desk is impressive!
|
Ha ha I already know a little sign with my friend being deaf but I very much want to learn a lot more and also get that key qualification (although when you get up to like level 3 million where you are fluent the course is insanely expensive!) the first level (the one I'll be saving for after this counsellng course) is £350 and it goes up significantly depending on the level.
Eska I may well take you up on the proof reading :) Also self made desk sounds awesome. Also weirdly re. learning sign language I've actually found that easier to learn than foreign verbal languages. |
That is expensive katy!!
Better get saving! |
I will post a picture next week when I move back to the house it's in! Although the room it's in is tiny so it's kind of hard to get a proper photo of it.
Having a shopping list would help but I tend to freak out thinking about making one so maybe not, I might do better just to go for it and find that once I'm actually in the shop I cope ok. Either way it's just a case of getting over the mental hurdle. |
I hope you manage it. Maybe reward yourself with something nice like buying a a bubble bath or something that smells nice. Or going for a coffee. That's a favourite treat of mine.
|
Definitely, I'll proofread stuff any time! Like I said, I enjoy it :)
I learned to count and to sign the numbers one to ten in Maasai... Nine years later I still remember the words but I forgot the signs within days. I guess we all learn in different ways but I still find being able to retain sign language super impressive. £350 is a lot of money but sounds totally worth it. |
I know Beckie!! I am hoping that like this counselling course I might get some concessions being on benefits as that would really help and it would make long term sense from their point of vew-if getting these qualifications leads me into a stable job, I may not need the benefits anymore so win win.
Can't wait to see a pic Eska! Sorry shopping is so stressful I find it overwhelming at times as well. I'm sure you'll be able to overcome it though, and as others have said, maybe try and give yourself a reward afterwards? |
Definitely. English spoken and written has always been a strength of mine so it is suprising to me that I retain sign better than foreign languages but as you say we all learn in different ways, it may even be the simple fact that I'm highly interested/motivated to learn sign.
Unfortunately 350 is just the beginning. Each level course you go up costs 100+ more than the last :S Just looked up Massai as hadn't heard of it, I think it's very impressive you've learnt any of that Eska!! |
I also vote for getting a reward eska!
My dad did sign language courses with his ex girlfriend. She was fluent. Im not sure if he still remembers it though! Im watching operation ouch. I love this show :p |
I also enjoy proof reading. I helped a few of my African support workers in my previous placement with their GCSE English, proof reading essays and such.
|
Never seen Operation ouch. Currently watching a documentary, but you've just reminded me I haven't looked for horrible histores yet, so once I finish this documentary I will look for those! I need more things to watch.
|
Yes! Horrible histories is amazing.
The songs are so catchy! |
I love catchy songs. Except for this (I'm sure you'll all remember...*evil laugh*):

Noooooooo Katy why would you do that???? Why did I click on it???? Why???? Oh the humanity!!!
|
|
Hahaha what did I just watch.
|
Ha ha I did that because I'm pure evil.
Beckie I love that video :P Btw my lights have gone off and waiting for someone to come flick the breaker switch as I can't reach in wheelchair without spending the night on the floor unable to get back up so if my typing goes to **** that's why. I'm actually quite impressed with my blind touch typing abilities so far! |
Oh no Katy. Is someone coming this evening?
|
Hi all.
|
Oh no katy!
Hope they hurry up Hi dawn |
Hi Beckie.
I went swimming for the first time in a few months. They are doing the leisure centre up so there was quite a few changes since last time. There's a Costa Coffee inside now. |
Sounds good!
|
It's the fifth Costa Coffee in town to open.
Just an advanced warning everyone I am going on holiday starting Sunday until Friday so I might not be around next week. I will be fine just don't want anyone panicking if I don't post for a while and thinking that I am IP/harmed myself. |
No lights yet :(
Good on you for going swimming Dawn. And duly noted about the holday-going anywhere nice? I'm happy because I finally bugged Beckie to death enough for her to read about the Ilvermorny school on Pottermore (another bit of J.K genius). To quote Monica from Friends-Nagging works! :P |
Hahaha good Monica quote.
Hi Dawn. That's good you went swimming. You all set for your holiday? |
Going anywhere nice dawn?
Yes nagging does work! :p Im glad you nagged me, it was really good! |
You're welcome Beckie :P
Okay less fun side effect of no lghts-navigating an already none wheelchairfriendly house with only your mobile phone torch to see by in said wheelchair. I think I may have slightly destroyed my kitchen :P |
Can you call them and tell them to hurry up?!
It sounds like a rather hazardous situation! |
I've sent a text. I'll ring again if it gets to quarter past.
|
Sod that. I just rang and no one answered. Not terribly impressed.
|
I hope someone comes and helps you soon Katy.
|
So do I. Not great tragedy though, at least *touch wood* all my other electronics are working.
|
Thats really bad katy!!
I hope you give them what for when they finally turn up!!! What did we do without gadgets?! |
I have no idea *strokes laptop and phone lovingly*
|
When my brother lived with me in the old house, the power went out.
We played cards for like 2 hours :p |
I nearly always carry a pack of cards for potential boredom eventualities. currently I have HP cards that came in one of my geek boxes.
