I suppose people do crazy things at the Olympics in the leaping department and taekwondo is a sport, an Olympic sport at that, so makes sense. Still bloody impressive. I can see it's a niche part though, not like jump kick is the event you see on Olympics that's sparring!

Cacoethes 15-06-2023 10:05 PM

They do indeed!
Yeah sparring is what most people (including me when i started!) Think the competitions are all about! You can do patterns too, which is more my speed XD

long road 15-06-2023 10:16 PM

Super speed mode. Imagine it would be really hard to do patterns both fast and precisely. Must be a real skill.

I meant to say earlier well done for drinking the rehydration stuff despite it tasting eurgh.

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 06:10 AM

Thank you!

Morning everyone!

tamobhuuta 16-06-2023 10:22 AM

Morning :) how are you?

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 10:25 AM

Yaaay someone's awake!
Morning!

I'm ok thanks.
Waiting for tesco. Estimated arrival 11:22-11:52
Hoping it might be slightly earlier, the time has gone down by 5 mins already.
Every minute helps, trying to get the earliest possible train!

How are you? Anything planned for today?

long road 16-06-2023 10:45 AM

*waves groggily*

Morning everyone!

My body is awake but my brain hasn't got there yet.

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 10:47 AM

Morning!

Oh i know that feeling!
Hope you wake up properly soon! Have a coffee!

Tesco is now estimated 11:15-11:45
6 stops away.
This has been Beckie with the tesco delivery update that no one asked for XD

That was very precise! Where are you going?

That's a more normal slot. I hope it arrives soon.

Morning :) I hope your brain catches up!

tamobhuuta 16-06-2023 11:03 AM

Just my normal routine, but no doctors on a Friday.

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 11:05 AM

It's now 11:05-11:35
4 stops away.
The times are oddly precise! DPD do that too!

I'm going to Cambridge. Need to go to a gourmet grocery shop to get some fancy meats and cheeses for father's day for my step dad, arranged by brother who lives in Thailand. So I'm basically just ubereats XD
But as I'm there, I'll do a bit of shopping. In desperate need of summer clothes!

Ah that's a shame! Is there anything you like to watch when it's not on?

long road 16-06-2023 11:24 AM

I am super invested in when your Tesco delivery arrives now!

I had breakfast and that has woken me up a bit. Coffee is next on the agenda!

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 11:26 AM

They are 1 stop away!
Says estimated 10:54-11:24 but it won't take that long. They aren't far away!
Unless the person has like an ENTIRE van full of food and sends a load of stuff back or complains or something XD

Good good! Feeling groggy like that is horrible!

long road 16-06-2023 12:14 PM

I hope Tesco is there by now.

I have had coffee and am sitting outside. The weather is a lot more pleasant today. Much cooler with a light breeze

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 12:19 PM

What an exciting moment to join this thread! Has the delivery arrived, Beckie? I hope you get some nice things in Cambridge. Will you be away for most of the day?

I hope your coffee helps, Jen. Have you got anything you'd like to be doing today?

I hope you have a good day, Tamo. What are you doing since Doctors isn't on?

I went to the chemist and was planning on going to Aldi but I was wearing different Converse and they were drawing blood so I just went to the local shop. Had to plan my route home carefully, on my way there I went up a quiet street and a man in his garden said "geeze a smile" but the Main Street way I'd have to pass by a very talkative persons house and he might be outside. I decided to go the Main Street way and got home without bumping into anyone thankfully! Washed my hair. Also got a phone call to say there has been a cancellation with the psych next Wednesday so I'm booked in for that.

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 12:29 PM

The delivery arrived! I put everything away like it was an extreme sport and now at the station XD

Thar sounds stressful lindsay!
I had that with my converse in milan. Awful!
I HATE it when randoms say to smile. So rude. I usually come up with something sad to make them feel bad about saying it, and hopefully deter them from saying it again

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 12:35 PM

Lol Beckie, you're such a menace! Did you put everything away like you were an Aldi cashier? I hope you have a successful day.

long road 16-06-2023 12:41 PM

Well there is one thing I have to do which is talk to work HR person at 2pm about occupational health assessment. I have to have one every 6 months to a year to keep insurers that ar epaying my prolonged disability benefit happy that I am still unfit to work. But am very lucky I still get so much pay from work via the insurance so while it's stressful I will take it.

And then things I want to do are roleplaying this evening we are almost at the bottom of the alien tomb we are exploring and will probably be at the point where we have to try and stop the big bad soon!

I hate it when strangers say anything unsolicited advice wise or comment on me. Minf your own business! Glad you got a psych appointment hope it ends up being helpful.

Hooray for delivery's safe arrival. Lol at extreme sport putting away XD we should get it added as an event for next year's Olympics.

Have fun in Cambridge!

tamobhuuta 16-06-2023 12:43 PM

I think I'm getting to the end of w1a. Do I watch twenty twelve, or black books next?

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 12:44 PM

Does the call take long? I hope you don't get too stressed. You're really going to have to explain role playing to me, it sounds very interesting. Do you use a computer game or board game or something else?

tamobhuuta 16-06-2023 12:45 PM

I'm glad you've got an appointment with the psych next week osc.

Well done on achievements so far everybody!

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 12:45 PM

I have no idea what those programmes are about so I am of no use, Tamo! I hope you enjoy whichever one you choose.

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 12:55 PM

I am indeed a menace! But these people definitely deserve it :tongue2:
Honestly their faces when i say something. They look away so fast they probably give themselves whiplash XD

I did go full aldi cashier LOL

Hope the call goes ok jen! Sounds tough.

I think the aldi staff would win that Olympic event! XD

This one will be just be a brief check in with HR and making the appointment for occupational health assesment.

The assessment can be anything from 15 minutes to an hour. They were getting shorter because I was seeing the same occupation health doctor each time but work are changing providers so will probably be a longer one this time as I will have to explain it all to something new.

So roleplaying is sitting round a table in person or using voice chat and a virtual tabletop computer programme which allows you all to see the same map/ images.
The GM (Games Master) tells a story / sets the scene and then the players describe what they want to do and make dice rolls to see if they succeed at those actions. Kind of like collaborative improve theatre with the players as the heroes and the GM as the enemies, innocent bystanders and everyone else. You have skills that give you bonuses to certain kinds of actions for example diplomacy for trying to persuade people or stealth for trying to sneak around. Not everything needs a roll the GM asks for one when they deem it necessary.

In most systems there is also similar skills for combat you roll to see if you hit an enemy and if you do hit for how much damage you do. And the enemies roll likewise. During combat you generally use a map and miniatures or virtual tokens on the computer to indicate where you are and are limited by what you can interact with depending on your position. E.g. you can't shoot someone your model couldn't see.

Different systems have different rules but the basic principle of telling a story, rolling to see if you succeed at things remain the same. Most well known system is Dungeons and Dragons. I play regular games in several less well known systems including Pathfinder and Deathwatch.

Well twenty twelve is very similar to w1a so if you liked one you will probably like the other (from seeing many trailers not actually watched it)
But personally I really enjoyed Black's books so would recommend that.

tamobhuuta 16-06-2023 01:30 PM

I've watched both before and they're very different kinds of comedy so it depends what mood I'm in.

long road 16-06-2023 01:41 PM

Well then I'd say twenty twelve sounds more positive.
But really you have to look at your mood :)

I am watching Foyles War at the moment it's a crime show set during the second world war.

tamobhuuta 16-06-2023 01:58 PM

That sounds weird!

long road 16-06-2023 02:27 PM

Foyles War you mean? It's quite cool it's like murder mystery meets period drama.

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 02:33 PM

Role playing sounds complicated but enjoyable if you can get into it. I'm glad you have something you enjoy doing.

Hope you both enjoy your TV.

long road 16-06-2023 02:38 PM

I've been roleplaying since September 2011 so I have had a while to get my head round it. It and board games are my biggest hobby/interest. Roleplaying sessions are often the highlight of my week. Even when I was very ill Ii roleplayed once a week nearly every week, was a bit normality and fun when I didn't get much of either.

I am enjoying TV and about to have a sandwich for lunch.

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 02:48 PM

I am so pleased that you are able to have regular role playing sessions that you enjoy. It can be such a help to have something to really look forward to.

Fancy sandwich today? I got a salad bowl but everything tasted like vinegar so I put it in the food bin.

long road 16-06-2023 02:56 PM

Fancyish. Had a chicken mayo baguette. Baguette was one of those part bake ones you finish in the oven at home. Might have an apple in a bit.

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 03:40 PM

Sounds nice. Do you use the packs or ready cooked chicken?

long road 16-06-2023 03:57 PM

I get the roast chicken slices so yeah ready cooked.

Have had my HR conversation it was about half an hour and a bit stressful, HR lady was supportive though and seems to be on my side.

Now watching some more TV and cuddling my big soft lion to try and calm down.

How are things with you Lindsay?

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 04:33 PM

Hey guys!
Sorry haven't caught up, i am melting and exhausted!
On train back now.
Managed to accidentally stumble across one of our pubs, which a few staff are leaving/have left to go to. I knew the name, but didn't register that it was in Cambridge! And it was down a little alleyway too, tk maxx caught my eye so went down there and saw it.
And one of the guys who i used to work with was working! Had a catch up. Was nice!
It has been a successful trip!

long road 16-06-2023 04:43 PM

A successful trip. Glad you had a good time, a happy coincidence to come upon the pub.

I am trying to rela before roleplaying this evening but can't quite switch off. You got anything else on today?

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 04:59 PM

Does being on here and having a general chat help with things at all, Jen? I hope you can find a safe way to relax and enjoy role playing. Where had you left off last time?

I thought you'd be away longer, Beckie. Is Cambridge not too far from you then? Glad you had a nice chat and a successful trip. Did you manage to get yourself some summery clothes?

long road 16-06-2023 05:09 PM

It helps a little. We were injured after a fight with guards of the tomb and had found some strange carvings on the walls that we are hoping will lead us to the big bad alien so we can stop him from going on a rampage across the universe.

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 05:19 PM

Thanks jen!

When is role-playing?
Hope you manage to chill a bit!

Cambridge isn't far really. About an hour on 2 trains. If the second one happens to be the fast train, which by luck, both mine were!
Then from Cambridge station into the centre is only about a 20 min walk. Then had to go to primark which was 15 mins away in another part of the centre, which is actually closer to the grocery shop and the station! So my route couldn't have been more perfect!
Plus i don't like going about looking at and touching everything! I have an idea of what i want, try it on, out!
I got a pair of shorts and a light linen shirt in like a moss green colour. Which is nicer than it sounds XD

I trust you with the fate of the universe jen!

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 05:22 PM

Will the injuries affect you? I hope you can all get together and defeat the big bad alien. Do you still have special powers?

That sounds like everything went to plan. I hate looking around shops too, it's much easier when you know what you're going for.

tamobhuuta 16-06-2023 05:28 PM

I like looking round shops, especially if I've got money to buy stuff!

long road 16-06-2023 05:29 PM

Roleplaying starts at 7:30pm. I am going to try and lie down or meditate or something before then. Calm my system down somehow.

We have special powers left, but it's going to be a close run thing. Should be fun though :)

not_so_insig 16-06-2023 06:14 PM

Hello all. It is certainly hot here. Currently I'm cooking my tea thankfully the air fryer doesn't make my kitchen unbelievably hot.

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 06:18 PM

You'll need to arrange a nice shopping trip then, Tamo. :-)

I hope you can feel much calmer, Jen and enjoy your role playing.

What are you making, Dawn? I haven't used my air fryer for a while.

I didn't really want dinner but ended up getting a takeaway. It came earlier than expected. It was from the Chinese and I only really wanted chips and gravy because I like their gravy but had to get chicken chow mien too to make up the cost for delivery. Didn't eat much of the chips, they weren't as tasty, maybe just my hay fever. Will maybe try and eat them cold with congealed gravy later! Will eat the chow mien tomorrow or maybe as a nighttime snack.

Cacoethes 16-06-2023 06:31 PM

I just hate the slowly wandering around thing that people do in shops!
And tourists do it as well, in the middle of paths.
I got the rage with some tourists doing it 5 mins after leaving Cambridge station XD

Love a chow mein!
Disappointing about the chips though!

not_so_insig 16-06-2023 06:36 PM

I made mac n cheese plus bbq chicken. Was tasty.

one_step_closer 16-06-2023 06:46 PM

Yeah, my brother has awful slow people rage.

That does sound tasty, Dawn. But how on earth did you make Mac and cheese in an air fryer?

not_so_insig 16-06-2023 06:56 PM

I parboiled the macaroni and then added it to some cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was runny so by finishing it off in the oven it thickened and the mac was cooked properly.
