I've still got a pumpkin I need to make soup from.

Pomegranate 26-01-2018 11:31 PM

Glad your mum is supportive and so lovely Aubergine.

Sketchy 26-01-2018 11:32 PM

Pumpkin soup sounds nice.

nonperson 26-01-2018 11:32 PM

Whoop, nearly time for Graham Norton.

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:33 PM

Nope, never had pumpkin either. I wouldn't really know what to do with one and I don't celebrate Halloween.

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:34 PM

Oh Tom Cruise is on tonight, more interested in seeing Simon Pegg, though.

Sketchy 26-01-2018 11:36 PM

I like Graham Norton. Think I’ll probably go to bed soon. Very tired.

Aubergine 26-01-2018 11:38 PM

Thanks. :) Mum is lovely. I don't know how she works at the hospice. I serve adult palliative patients at work and that's hard enough. My Mum is probably the most level headed person I know though. I think I've also given her a lot of practice when it comes to staying calm in difficult situations, too. :P

I'm told that small pumpkins taste nicer? I use a lot of butternut squash and sweet potato, as Asda do frozen cubes of them that you can roast/boil/soupify. i'm such a lazy cook!

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:38 PM

I think I'll be up for at least another 12 hours. I did an all nighter last night as well and had jobs to do today. I've got a Burn's Supper to help out with at church tomorrow night, I should probably try to sleep for a few hours before I go.

nonperson 26-01-2018 11:40 PM

Yeah you don't want to eat the big monster pumpkins. I have a small blue one that is super tasty. I did a thai pumpkin soup in the autumn and I think I'll do the same again because it was amazing.

I'm a bit pumpkin obsessed to be honest. >.>

Sketchy 26-01-2018 11:41 PM

Your mum sounds awesome. My sister is a cardiology nurse but she’s interested in palliative nursing. I don’t think I could do it and I admire her for it. We lost our mum to cancer. The nurses were fantastic. I couldn’t do that job so I respect my sister for it.

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:41 PM

My mother is suffering from terminal lung cancer. She's on oxygen now and in and out of hospital, it's getting to the end stage. I feel terrible for all the hassle I've caused her with my insanity but I've apologised and she said there's no need to. It's just hard to watch when there's absolutely nothing you can do.

Admittedly I buy diced carrots and turnip for cooking, I can't be bothered with the chopping malarkay.

Sketchy 26-01-2018 11:43 PM

Freeatlast if you ever need someone to talk to I’m only a pm away. I know how hard it is and I’m here if you need someone to talk to.

I buy the diced stuff too.

Aubergine 26-01-2018 11:47 PM

I'm glad I'm not alone with buying diced stuff! I just really, really struggle with cooking! It's better than living on chocolate though, right?! (Though I do love chocolate. Really fancy some dark chocolate, but alas, I have already had a blueberry muffin tonight.)

I'm sorry about your Mums. I offer to lend mine to my best friend sometimes. You can borrow mine too. Her name is A and she gives good hugs. She also gives good talkings to, in a kind way, if you are not helping yourself. So be prepared! :)

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:48 PM

When my mother was diagnosed my life went into freefall. Thanks for your offer, I might have to take you up on it. Part of the reason I returned to this site is because I know she's going to die soon and other than take drugs I don't know what else to do.

nonperson 26-01-2018 11:49 PM

I just had a chocolate mousse with dark chocolate chips on top. >.>

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:50 PM

Thanks, Aubergine. :0)

Sketchy 26-01-2018 11:50 PM

I would love to borrow your mum. She sounds fantastic.

I love chocolate too!

Keep talking freeatlast. Let people help you and again I’m here. It’s good to have someone who understands because it can feel very lonely.

Sketchy 26-01-2018 11:51 PM

Ooooh chocolate mousse.

I might open another of my Christmas chocolates!

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:51 PM

Is this what ordinary folk do on Friday nights? Eat all sorts of marvellous food and watch Graham Norton and QI?

Aubergine 26-01-2018 11:52 PM

I am jealous, Person! I have Bournville chocolate in the fridge. I put it in there so I'd stop staring at it...

*Sends A to people who need a Mum hug right now*

nonperson 26-01-2018 11:53 PM

It's what I do.

I'm not ordinary. =)

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:53 PM

My mum was diagnosed about 4 years ago with throat cancer, then it was neck cancer and then it was metastatic lung cancer. I thought cancer was an isolated thing, you went into remission and then got on with life, I feel as though I should have seen it coming. Instead of being supportive I went on the rampage for a year.

Sketchy 26-01-2018 11:54 PM

Aubergine in that case I will send Molly to give you kitty hugs.

Sketchy 26-01-2018 11:55 PM

*hugs freeatlast*

Aubergine 26-01-2018 11:55 PM

On Friday nights, I tend to sit on my bed, listen to music, and enjoy the great company here. I will usually phone my Mum and my best friend, too. :) Am I ordinary? Probably not, but I don't really know anyone who is. I've done similar since I was about 20. :)

Aubergine 26-01-2018 11:56 PM

Thank you, Lorraine. :) I love kitty hugs, especially from a kitty as cute as Molly. :)

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:57 PM

According to my psychiatrist my mother becoming ill was one of the major factors in me becoming unwell because of our "difficult" relationship. When I was sectioned I wrote her a letter, I really regret doing it but everything I said in it I meant at the time. She's apologised and I've apologised, we're now at the stage where there's no sorries left to say.

I live at home, it makes it worse because I need to watch it happening and my brother moans about me but he doesn't have to deal with it. He just appears when it suits him. I'm going to stop before I end up ranting on about it.

Cheryl88 26-01-2018 11:58 PM

Your Friday nights sound better than mine. Next Friday I'll be sober and join in the feast. It's quite enjoyable just chatting with random strangers.

Aubergine 27-01-2018 12:00 AM

My Friday nights are nice. :) You are very welcome to join in. It's nice to have you. I like chatting with people too, but I don't see them as strangers anymore. Hopefully it won't be too long before you don't see us as strangers either. :)

Cheryl88 27-01-2018 12:02 AM

Thanks, it's nice being here. You seem like a decent bunch, it's all very harmless here. Did anyone ever come to this site when it was ruinyourlife.com? Or did anyone ever go to that site?

nonperson 27-01-2018 12:03 AM

I still consider myself a bit of a newbie here (and I am really!) but feel quite comfortable with people here now, because everyone's awesome and welcoming and this thread is mostly about food which helps. =)

Cheryl88 27-01-2018 12:04 AM

It was basically a site for self harmers to share pictures of their wounds and scars and write fan fiction about harming themselves and others. It was like this site except with no focus on 'recovery' - extremely morbid stuff.

Cheryl88 27-01-2018 12:05 AM

Food tends to come up a lot from what I've seen but we've also had Stephen Fry, the royal boroughs and botany. And travel. It's quite varied. :D

Sketchy 27-01-2018 12:05 AM

I enjoy spending my fridays here too. I consider everyone that uses this thread as my friends.

The big question is, do I open a chocolate orange, or do I eat a chocolate liqueur?

nonperson 27-01-2018 12:05 AM

There were lots of those sites back in the day. Now forums like this are losing popularity.

nonperson 27-01-2018 12:05 AM

CHOCOLATE ORANGE!!!!

nonperson 27-01-2018 12:06 AM

Sorry. That was a bit of an outburst... o.o

Cheryl88 27-01-2018 12:07 AM

Oh now I do like a chocolate orange but they're massive. Personally, I'd go for a chocolate liqueur so long as it doesn't involve brandy.

nonperson 27-01-2018 12:08 AM

They're not that big. Could easily eat a whole chocolate orange in one go.

I can't believe you still have one unopened, Lorraine!!

Sketchy 27-01-2018 12:09 AM

I’m quite tempted by the chocolate liqueurs. They are a mix. Some with cognac, amaretto and vodka. I think I’ll have a couple then head to head.

Cheryl88 27-01-2018 12:09 AM

That's what I mean, once it's opened there's no going back. My favourite chocolate has to be a Fry's peppermint cream. Anything with chocolate and mint.

Sketchy 27-01-2018 12:10 AM

I was given heaps of chocolates, so that’s the only reason I still have it.

Sketchy 27-01-2018 12:10 AM

Ooh mint chocolate is lush!

nonperson 27-01-2018 12:10 AM

I make a nice chocolate mint traybake. Was thinking about making it today.

Sketchy 27-01-2018 12:11 AM

That sounds yummy!

Aubergine 27-01-2018 12:13 AM

Argh! Would it be really bad to have a square of Bournville?! Chocolate...

Your present buyers are fantastic, Lorraine! :D

(Person, you're not new anymore. :P) (Lorraine, I consider you a friend too. :) )

Cheryl88 27-01-2018 12:14 AM

I joined slimming world a week ago on Monday and I've done well losing weight but I've cut out most food groups. I'll be back to my normal weight in about a fortnight. I gained it rapidly but I can lose it just as quickly.

nonperson 27-01-2018 12:14 AM

Yay, I've integrated!

Sketchy 27-01-2018 12:15 AM

Aww thanks Aubergine.

I agree Nonperson isn’t new. You’re one of us!

Go on Aubergine. Eat some chocolate!
