not_so_insig 05-08-2022 07:53 PM

Yes Lindsay. I slept for 14 hours which is a very long time for me. Fortunately the amazon man didn't wake me up as he came at 6 pm. Feeling a bit dopey still so am drinking monster. Think an early night is on the cards.

Cacoethes 05-08-2022 08:27 PM

You should definitely get some salmon np!

nonperson 05-08-2022 08:54 PM

I may just do that.

Cacoethes 05-08-2022 09:59 PM

Yay salmon!

I'm annoyed because I'm tired but I've been trying to sleep for ages and it's not happening :(

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 07:01 AM

Morning everyone!

Unbreakable. 06-08-2022 11:22 AM

HELLO

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 11:25 AM

Hellloooo!

How are you?

Unbreakable. 06-08-2022 11:44 AM

I'm bored

I booked my hair appointment for 1:30 so I could sleep in but now I'm awake and bored

I wannaaaa goooo nooooow

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 11:57 AM

Same!
I've been to asda and have **** all else to do!
All pilates and exercise classes are booked up for today!
I may just practice press ups for taekwando (which i am very annoyed about, i signed up for fighting people, not to do press ups!)
I have nothing left in the house to sort out. House is clean.
GAH!!!

What are you getting done to your hair?
I love going to the hairdressers

Unbreakable. 06-08-2022 12:06 PM

We're going to do a slightly different hue from my usual color today
It's usually just to take care of roots showing and thinning out my hair
I try to go about every other month by now
I used to not care but a stable income and a minor crush on the hairdresser help with the remembering and bothering to go

I will have to bath and feed myself in a moment though

That sounds boring indeed :( :( :(
Any video games or Netflix shows you can get into for a few hours?

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 12:10 PM

Ooh exciting!

Ah that sucks. Boring stuff.

No video games, I'm just watching random stuff.
Currently watching pirates of the Caribbean 4
I don't think I've seen it before

The Worst Witch 06-08-2022 12:16 PM

Beckie, if you’re bored, you can come help me unpack all the hundreds of boxes my dad dumped in my spare room, or help me build all the stuff I bought soot because he’s spoilt and clearly needed new stuff!

I like getting my hair cut too. I haven’t been for a while though, should probably go before schools go back the week after next

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 12:24 PM

Totally would if i could afford a train/plane ticket to Scotland!
Why isn't teleportation a thing yet?!

I'm gonna get my hair curled (well, waved) before the hen do in a few weeks.

Unbreakable. 06-08-2022 12:28 PM

Ooooo you gotta post JPEGs of that!!!!!

Alison, sounds like you are having a busy day???

Beckie, can you pick a random topic for research to get excited about??

The Worst Witch 06-08-2022 12:31 PM

It should be! Although the concept slightly freaks me out because you have to be deconstructed and then built again at the other side, which sounds painful!

My cousins hem do was last weekend, but I declined to go. Not my kind of thing, although I suspect I’ll have to go to sisters to keep up appearances. Totally told her the other day that I’d look after the bairns instead of being put in the wedding party but apparently thats not the done thing!

Unbreakable. 06-08-2022 12:34 PM

I hate when people insist you have to do things you're uncomfortable with for the sake of appearance/tradition etc

The Worst Witch 06-08-2022 12:43 PM

Its not for a while so her and her fiance can save up, although I do suspect parental contributions can be expected. I don’t mind doing stuff for my sister because we are really close, I used to look after her all the time after school etc. Still see her quite a lot too despite the fact she lives in London, and told her she has a one time pass to put me in a dress for her wedding if she wants.

I should start unpacking, been living out of boxes. Did however sort the painter yesterday, so that might be enough adulting for one week

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 12:44 PM

Currently depressed af so not really interested in anything tbh XD
I am looking into getting guinea pigs if the landlord approves it. I sent a message to the letting agent earlier this week and she's gonna ask landlord.
So i suppose i could research guinea pig stuff and costs of things.

Yeah that part of teleportation would be scary!
Maybe apparition or floo powder??

That's tricky.
Do you know what she's planning for her hen?
I'm quite looking forward to G's because i don't get out much. I'm stressing out about the pool/hot tub part. And finding something to wear for the night out.

The Worst Witch 06-08-2022 12:54 PM

I don’t know, I’m (thankfully!) not maid of honour so would be up to her best friend to plan. I don’t think she’s planned anything yet because she’s just had a bairn (everybody is having bairns ffs) and the original plan of going to Vegas is out I imagine.

I hope landlord approves guinea pigs! I prefer cats although I’m obvs biased ha

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 01:08 PM

Vegas would not be fun with a baby!

I do like cats but i don't think i could cope with the litter trays and random vomiting!

nonperson 06-08-2022 01:36 PM

Vegas is not fun even without a baby.

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 01:40 PM

It doesn't really seem like much fun
My brother is getting married in Vegas
They're doing the whole 'married by elvis' thing
But I think they're doing something in the Uk as well for friends and family

Pi.R^2 06-08-2022 01:44 PM

Lol np! Sorry you had a disappointing Vegas experience. I don't think it'd be my cup of tea. K's been and said it was a bit more exciting than just casinos though so maybe there's be bits that I would enjoy!

Also hi!

Ali - I went to 'traditional' hen party once and I did the day and early evening activities and then bailed on the limousine/night club outing and went to bed in the travelodge and it was the best decision ever! I think it's nice to put yourself a little out of your comfort zone for someone else's hen party/wedding (like you offering to wear a dress) but a decent person should also be understanding that there will be things you don't want to do.

nonperson 06-08-2022 01:45 PM

That's what my sister did, but not by Elvis, although the guy looked like he was probably an Elvis impersonator when he wasn't marrying people!

I hate to say it but I probably would go back but not for a wedding. It is quite an experience plus the Grand Canyon is nearby and Hoover Dam and I didn't get time to go to the cactus garden chocolate factory.

nonperson 06-08-2022 01:46 PM

Ninja Jenna. Yes there is lots more to Vegas than just the casinos. They were fun to walk around though.

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 01:51 PM

I think I'd like to visit for the experience.
But if i ever had that much money, i have other places i want to go that are more important than vegas!
Would love to see the grand canyon though

I'm looking forward to the hen do but not the swimming pool/hot tub bit because of mental issues.
I've been thinking of excuses to not get in the water. The other girls seem really lovely but my issues are still strong! I'd still like to go so i can get to know people and hang out. Idk

nonperson 06-08-2022 01:55 PM

Yeah I'm glad I went for the experience, although there was an awful lot of time spent crying in my hotel room. We did Vegas, then travelled to LA and then up to San Francisco. I'd go to SF again for definite, I like the vibe there.

You don't have to go in the pool and hot tub. Maybe you could schedule a treatment thing (is that what they do at spas? I don't really know) while everyone is in the pool. Just see what it's like on the day and make the decision then.

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 02:05 PM

San Francisco looks cool!

It's not a spa. It's a local pool house that we've rented for a couple of hours. So the sole reason for going is the pool and hot tub! And drinking obvs.
I'll probably need to leave early anyway because it's rented until 2pm and I'm getting my hair done at 2:15pm.
It's only a 10 min car journey but that would be cutting it way too close!

I'm intrigued by this! Is it indeed a garden filled with both cacti and a chocolate factory?

What mentalz are preventing you from going in the water?
Period is a classic excuse for not going in water I think?

one_step_closer 06-08-2022 02:18 PM

Wow, where have you all appeared from? This thread is busy busy!

The Worst Witch 06-08-2022 02:29 PM

Lindsay, I’m procrastinating from unpacking the millions of boxes in my spare room

I also find stating totm a good excuse not to go in water!

nonperson 06-08-2022 02:29 PM

Ah sorry Beckie. For some reason I thought it was a spa.

And Jenna, yes it is indeed a cactus garden combined with a chocolate factory.

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 02:33 PM

Body image issues Jenna. Classic.
Ohh the period excuse is a good one!
I haven't had a period in 9 years but they don't know that (obviously, would be a bit weird if they did)

The cactus garden thing sounds awesome!

one_step_closer 06-08-2022 02:34 PM

Unpacking can sometimes be fun for a short period. But procrastinate away if it suits you, Alison!

Someone on Fb was saying there's a poison plants garden (don't know where) full of deadly plants and you can get a tour of it but some people pass out because of the fumes. I'd rather go to the cactus garden chocolate factory.

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 02:44 PM

Yes i have heard of that garden!
I wonder if they have a gift shop
But yes,.cactus garden chocolate factory sounds a lot friendlier!

nonperson 06-08-2022 02:47 PM

Poison plant gardens are often just over hyped to be honest. They mostly contain very normal every day plants that no one realises are poisonous.

The Worst Witch 06-08-2022 02:52 PM

Except you, because you’re a massive plant geek :P

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 02:53 PM

Do you grow any poisonous plants at your work?

nonperson 06-08-2022 03:07 PM

Yep! Loads.

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 03:10 PM

Cool!

Random question, what's your favourite plant of all time?

nonperson 06-08-2022 03:12 PM

That's an impossible question to answer.

I have a couple of favourite trees of all time though - Sequoiadendron giganteum and Wollemia nobilis.

You've got nothing to do today so I'll leave you to research what's cool about them =P

The Worst Witch 06-08-2022 03:13 PM

NP, I assume they have a use even though they’re poisonous to us?

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 03:19 PM

I think I've seen those trees about!
No idea what they were called though obviously!

nonperson 06-08-2022 03:33 PM

You might have seen Sequoiadendrons around. The Wollemi pine is a bit more unusual.

Alison - yep, poisonous plants are often just highly ornamental. Like foxgloves, daffodils, tulips, lillies... You'd just have to be bloody stupid to eat one. =P

I'm on my laptop now so here comes the plant word vomit.

And what's really interesting is that quite often the plant is used for something edible, maybe the leaves or, as a specific example, Ricinus - it's grown as an ornamental annual, we get caster oil from from the seeds which we ingest (not for food, mind), but the seed itself is highly poisonous. We have to wear gloves when we sow them at work.

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 03:40 PM

That's pretty cool!
I wonder how people found out they could use bits of plant for certain things but not to ingest them
Hell of a lot of trial and error?!

nonperson 06-08-2022 03:54 PM

I guess it's the same with herbs and edible flowers and medicinal plants and how to make paper or papyrus or cotton. People are clever when they want to be!

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 04:02 PM

Very true!
In the grand scheme of things, we have come a very long way very fast

nonperson 06-08-2022 04:09 PM

Technology wise, yes. But people have been utilising plants for various uses for thousands of years.

Zurg 06-08-2022 04:40 PM

The best plants are the ones that can be smoked!!!! Woop, woop!!!
#sorrynotsorry

Cacoethes 06-08-2022 04:43 PM

That's true.
It's pretty amazing!

Haha! Yes zurg!
Though i will refrain from commenting further as i already got an infraction once upon a time for discussing illegal activity. Or something like that. XD
