Tbh, I didn't really have issues when I read that one, but when I read 'The Fire Child' which is the author's next novel under that name, it was also about a woman putting a kid at risk etc because of mental health problems (that I didn't necessarily find terribly realistic) and it just pissed me off!

at the local charity shop, there are paperbacks for 49p and hardbacks for 99p to be bought - so i got one of each
i never saw the girl on the train movie, so maybe just reading the book is right for me:)

one_step_closer 09-06-2018 03:19 PM

Hannah, that is quite annoying. I put The fire Child on my to read list, is it worth a go anyway?

Charity shops are great for book bargains, although I've seen some charge 2.50 for paperbacks which is a good deal but I'd prefer them to be 1 or less!

I have The Girl On The Train on my book case and I've never seen the film either. If you read it let me know if you recommend it.

Now reading:

Fragile Lives: A Heart Surgeon's Stories of Life and Death on the Operating Table - Stephen Westaby.

Lindsay, I'd say it's probably worth a read. I didn't enjoy it as much as The Ice Twins, but I did still enjoy reading it for the most part.

I really liked The Girl On The Train. The film is terrible. I really wouldn't bother watching it!

I gave this 3 stars (liked it).

Now reading:

Scaredy Cat - Mark Billingham.

and

Half In Love With Death: Managing The Chronically Suicidal Patient - Joel Paris.

one_step_closer 14-06-2018 06:22 PM

Could not get into Scaredy Cat, only chose it because I have to chose a crime book to read for the reading group I go to and I have no idea what is crime and what is a thriller and Scaredy Cat definitely had crime in it!

Found a book that says 'the crime novel of the year' on the front cover so I'm giving it a shot:

Blacklands - Belinda Bauer.

Now reading Magical Thinking - Augusten Burroughs.

Nothing cultured... but started Harry Potter again from the beginning. Haven't read the books for so long. =)

Harry Potter is 100% cultured. I sometimes think I'd like to read the books again but then I think that there are so many books I haven't read that I should be reading them instead. Hope you're enjoying them.

I am now also reading this. :-)

one_step_closer 23-06-2018 06:08 PM

I'm finding it a bit slow and not engaging so far but I'm going to continue with it.

one_step_closer 25-06-2018 03:49 PM

Gave Don't Wake Up 2 stars (it was ok). I didn't like it much but gave it 2 stars since I finished it.

Now reading This Love - Dani Atkins.

LovedSecureFree 26-06-2018 12:13 PM

I finished Wild, which I really enjoyed, and The Year Of Less, which was incredibly dull. Now reading Lisey's Story by Stephen King, which I'm enjoying but I'm disappointingly un-scared so far!

one_step_closer 30-06-2018 02:27 PM

Lisey's Story is one of the books I remember becoming absolutely engrossed in and I couldn't stop thinking about it once I had finished it. I read it a long, long time ago so can't remember anything about it now.

one_step_closer 30-06-2018 07:42 PM

Now reading Lullaby - Chuck Palahniuk.

Now reading I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes With Death - Maggie O'Farrell.

Serendipity. 05-07-2018 11:55 AM

Finished Lisey's Story. I really really liked it. Can't decide what to read next!
