i mean most people (apart from gardeners XD) don't use the latin names for things...

Ahimsa 07-09-2024 09:23 PM

I know - but in the box marked "Species" they put "doesn't have one" and in the box marked "Breed" they put "Mixed breed"

nonperson 07-09-2024 09:29 PM

That is true, Jen. My mind can't help but try to classify everything into latin!

Species seems an odd field to have to input though!

long road 07-09-2024 09:40 PM

That's funny Beth XD

What's the most fun bit of Latin you know NP? Like coolest or funniest sounding word?

Not really, we don't need the latin term but we can't just have "breed" - if they just put "mixed breed" it could be a dog, a cat, a rabbit, or many others.

Basically if it's not a large, zoo, or farm animal, we treat it. So fish, reptiles, birds, cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, chinchillas, guinea pigs, sugar gliders, frogs, snakes, lizards, all sorts! So "cross breed" doesn't really help - so we need the species too :)

long road 07-09-2024 10:31 PM

I just imagined a cross bred dog fish XD

nonperson 07-09-2024 10:35 PM

Ah yes that does make sense, Beth!

Funniest is definitely "Rubus cockburnianus". But there is also "Metasequoia glyptostroboides" which is a fun one to say

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 10:51 AM

Morning ninja Tamo!

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 11:00 AM

Eugh I feel so unwell, I've got this awful cold that's going round.

I've had some lemsip and eaten half a melon, I think I'm going to try get 1 piece of wallpaper done today and then maybe some crafting things.

I also need to wash my hair, I usually do it every 8-10 days but when my hairdresser did it yesterday she's put sprays and stuff in it, and its now completely matted to my head.

tamobhuuta 08-09-2024 11:11 AM

Take care of your stinky cold!

not_so_insig 08-09-2024 11:38 AM

Hello all. It's raining here.

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 11:44 AM

Hey Insig,

Same here, I'm glad I'm not leaving the house today!

one_step_closer 08-09-2024 11:52 AM

Morning almost afternoon everyone.

How are you, Beckie, Tamo, and Dawn?

Sorry you're not feeling well, Beth. You can complain about it as much as you like! I am such a moaner when I feel physically unwell.

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 12:17 PM

I've spent the morning in bed, I've just got dressed and I think I'm going to put a wash on and put some bits on Vinted.

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 12:47 PM

What's everyone's afternoons looking like?

Cacoethes 08-09-2024 02:10 PM

Hello everyone!
I am at work atm. On break.

It was raining on the way here but is rather nice now

Hope you feel better soon beth!

tamobhuuta 08-09-2024 03:34 PM

I'm sure you'll all be interested to know, the xrays show there is nothing wrong with my foot.

long road 08-09-2024 03:49 PM

Hooray tha nothing is broken Tamo. How is your foot feeling? Sprains don't show on crays but can still be really painful.

Hope you feel better soon Beth. Colds are super annoying.

Hope work goes well Beckie.

I am not doing much as FND continues to be a troll

tamobhuuta 08-09-2024 03:56 PM

Sore! They said it will be sore because it had a blunt trauma.

Sorry your FND is screwing with you.

long road 08-09-2024 04:50 PM

Is there any ice packs they can get you? Ice can help with that kind of pain.

FND is just doing what FND does annoying as hell but to be expected. Have made a good nest with pillows and blankets and my cuddly toy animals at least.

tamobhuuta 08-09-2024 05:14 PM

I was putting those artificial ice packs on but they weren't very cold so I stopped bothering. I should probably start moving more, it's been three days.

long road 08-09-2024 05:35 PM

Yeah it's good to try and weight bear with a soft tissue foot/ ankle injury helps the healing process.

How are you other than your foot?

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 05:44 PM

Hey LR,

I'm sorry FND is being a bitch today :(

long road 08-09-2024 05:55 PM

It sucks but it is what it is.

How is your day going Beth?

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 05:57 PM

I went out to get some new flowers and put the washing away that's been there for months, actually remembered to take my ADHD meds today.

I'm meant to be reading the quiz tonight but every time I speak I end up in a coughing fit :( So I've had to cancel.

How're you?

long road 08-09-2024 06:05 PM

Pretty flowers! Hope they brighten up your house.

Well done for putting away the washing, I hate it when tasks hang over you for a long time like that must feel good it's done. Well done for remembering meds, have you tried setting an alarm to help you remember if you often forget?

Sucks to cancel but best to rest.

I am tucked up in bed watching you tube. Still in pain but painkillers are taking the edge off. Might try and nap again soon.

tamobhuuta 08-09-2024 06:19 PM

Sorry you had to cancel Ahimsa. I hope you enjoy your flowers.

I'm glad your painkillers have some effect lr.

I'm doing ok thanks, even been able to socialise a little because my head is quieter since the Event.

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 06:23 PM

I have an alarm for my meds on my phone itself, an app on my phone, and my Amazon Alexa. It doesn't help :(

If I'm in the middle of something, or driving, or in the shower, etc when that alarm goes off, it gets silenced and then I forget about them. And I can't take them too late because they're stimulants and then I don't sleep.

But because I work shifts, it's not as straight forward as the same time each day. On an early shift, to get me through work I have to take them at 7am. On a late shift I don't even start til 12pm.

So say I set an alarm for 9am, in the middle. If I'm on the phone with a client at 9am, that alarm gets silenced and I forget until probably mid afternoon, at which point tis too late to take an 8 hour stimulant!

tamobhuuta 08-09-2024 06:24 PM

I could not cope with meds that complicated!

Well, same time every day with food is how it's meant to be - but that doesn't work with working shifts ;)

I also don't eat breakfast (due to feeling sick in the mornings) so there isn't that routine to slot it into.

On a late shift, lunch is 4pm so way too late to take them with lunch either.

one_step_closer 08-09-2024 06:37 PM

Look after yourselves as best as you can. <3

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 06:45 PM

Hope you are too OSC!

one_step_closer 08-09-2024 06:53 PM

Thanks, Beth. I'm just my usual.

What are you going to do with your evening since you've had to cancel the quiz? Are you going to have some rest or do your usual million and one things?!

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 06:56 PM

I don't know, I'm just watching Feel Good but I keep getting distracted (meds have worn off!).

I want to go to sleep but a) its too early and b) I'm not actually tired.

What about you?

one_step_closer 08-09-2024 07:00 PM

That sounds annoying. I hope you can find something to pass the time and have a good sleep when you do go to bed.

I'm just about to go offline and watch TV.

long road 08-09-2024 07:22 PM

Watching TV and staying cosy sounds a good plan Beth especially as you are ill so need to rest while you have the opportunity . Maybe if focus isn't as good you could watch something with shorter episodes? Or something you have watched before so if you miss a bit you still know roughly what is going on.

Remembering meds can be tricky when you don't have same schedule everyday. Could you set multiple alarms? Like one at 8:45, one at 9, one at 9:15? That you have three opportunities to take them within half an hour and hopefully are unlikely to be busy every time?

My most annoying med I only take once a week so is a) extra hard to remember because it only happens on Mondays b) have to take when I wake up before I eat ior drink anything so if I forget and auto pilot to breakfast I end up missing it c) can't eat or drink for 30 minutes after taking it d) have to stay upright either sitting up straight or standing for those 30 minutes and can't lie down until I have eaten.

I am going to have dinner soon. We are having chicken salad wraps and homemade potato wedges

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 07:35 PM

Oh that sounds really annoying, silly meds!!

Your dinner sounds lovely :)

I'm watching Feel Good, I've seen it before and the episodes are only half an hour. Time is going so so slowly though.

long road 08-09-2024 07:53 PM

I hear you about time going slowly. What is Feel Good about?

I am watching a show about a British band going through K-pop training

Ahimsa 08-09-2024 08:05 PM

Ooh what are you watching that on? TV/iplayer/netflix etc?

I'm not very good at explaining things, but this is from Wikipedia :)

"Feel Good is a British comedy-drama television programme created by Mae Martin and Joe Hampson. It is a semi-autobiographical romantic comedy starring Mae Martin as a fictionalised version of themself and Charlotte Ritchie as Mae's girlfriend, George.

The show follows the development of George and Mae's romance in contemporary Manchester. Mae (Mae Martin), a Canadian comedian (a version of Mae Martin's own personal life), meets George (Charlotte Ritchie), a repressed, middle-class English woman, at the comedy club where Mae performs.

The pair begin dating, and George learns that Mae is a former drug addict. George encourages them to attend a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, where Mae meets fellow recovering addicts. Mae's addiction causes problems in their relationship, as does George's reluctance to come out and tell friends and family about her relationship with Mae"

not_so_insig 08-09-2024 08:13 PM

Feel Good is on Channel 4 catchup.

Sorry I haven't been around much. Went out and then my mh has taken a dive (happened when I came back not when I was out) since.

Hey Insig,

Sorry if I've caused confusion I know where Feel Good is on - that's what I'm watching now.

I was asking about the thing LR was watching.

I'm sorry you're struggling, do you want to talk?

not_so_insig 08-09-2024 08:48 PM

Ah my fault. I think that Jen's programme is on iplayer as there's a programme about some people having k pop training on there. It's on Saturdays on bbc 1.

I am just having trouble with the voices kicking in. Might try reading more of my book or do some drawing.

long road 08-09-2024 09:05 PM

My programme is on iPlayer. It's called Made in Korea : The K-Pop Experience.

Feel Good sound interesting Beth. I liked Mae Martin in taskmaster, I might check it out sometime.

Sorry to hear about the voices Dawn. I know you have been free of them for sometimes so it must be hard Sending good vibes.

Moonlight Princess 08-09-2024 10:36 PM

Just going to pop in to say I'm a fan of both Feel Good and the K-Pop Experience!
