Books? What are books? The latest "book" I read was an ebook online. Does Readers' Digest count? Don't have time for a complete paper book. I get most of my info online or in magazines. Don't have time for a long continuing saga these days.

Just started 'overheard in a dream' By Torey Hayden. I'm still not in a 'reading mood' though so I doubt I'll finish it.

mesmerized. 10-06-2009 12:49 AM

'The Great Gatsby' was amazing. Best book I've read in a long time, actually.
Now I'm reading 'Carry Me Down' by M.J. Hyland. It's about a boy who can always tell if people are lying, and his messed up family. It doesn't sound that great, and I just picked it up in the library for something to read, but it's actually surprisingly good.

Amaryllis 10-06-2009 12:58 AM

I'm reading Artemisia by Alexandra Lapierre. It's pretty good, picked it up on a whim.

samshine 10-06-2009 01:41 AM

I just read 'Remember Me' by Sophie Kinsella, I read it in a day but it was an enjoyable read about a woman with amnesia that can't remember the last 3 years of her life.

I read The Great Gatsby for higher English and so glad I did! Might re-read it soon!

mesmerized. 10-06-2009 02:27 PM

^Lucky you! We did awful books for Higher English. >< You should definitely re-read it :)

'Carry Me Down' was good, I enjoyed it. Now I'm going to read 'Decline and Fall' by Evelyn Waugh. I think.

Stellata 10-06-2009 04:56 PM

"Carry me down" is very good. I read it recently, too.

I'm currently reading "Change of heart" by Jodi Picoult.
Before that I read "The Drowning Girl" by Margeret Leroy, and before that "Secrets" by Freya North.

whirlpools 10-06-2009 05:00 PM

Carry Me Down was really disturbing.

i love Torey Hayden, i think she's my favourite author of that type of book.

mesmerized. 10-06-2009 05:33 PM

It was. But still good.

I decided to read 'The Mephisto Club' by Tess Gerritsen. I normally don't like crime books, but I'm slightly addicted to hers. 'Decline and Fall' is definitely next, though.

Katiee 11-06-2009 01:18 PM

Haha, if you want me to be honest I hate books! :tongue2:

mesmerized. 11-06-2009 05:07 PM

Lol, fair enough. I love books <3

'The Mephisto Club' was good. Icky, and totally ridiculous, but a good story. Now I'm reading Aeschylus' 'Oresteia'. I'll probably start reading 'Decline and Fall' as well, though.

accidents 11-06-2009 08:21 PM

Argh.

Does anybody have any good books they can recommend?

Currently reading: Galaxy In Flames by Ben Counter. Not great.
Next on the list: Cocaine Nights by J.G. Ballard.

Torture Garden by Octave Mirbeau (beware, it is very violent, very bloody, very graphic and generally disturbing fare, but a classic) or The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea by Yukio Mishima.

one_step_closer 14-06-2009 04:24 PM

Finally finished The Sunflower Forest - Torey Hayden, it's taking me so long to read books these days.

Now reading Insomnia - Stephen King.

mesmerized. 14-06-2009 11:40 PM

I can't get into 'Decline and Fall'. I just, don't find it at all entertaining.
I read 'A Tale of Two Sisters' by Anna Maxted instead. Absolute trash, but I can't be bothered reading anything better right now, haha. And I like her books.

Try Fulgrim, by Graham McNeill. Much better, but has themes of mental illness and self harm in it, so be warned!

Just finished reading Let The Right One In, by John Ajivide Lindqvist. A vampire story, and super disturbing. Quite a trigger for sexual abuse.
