your pets name?

So i'm just curious as to what people have named their pets and if their is a reason to the name?

My kitty is named Georgie and I called her that after Curious George (the monkey) cause she gets into EVERYTHING! She's very curious *nods*

In the past we had 3 main coons (biggest domestic cat) and we called them Zeus, Hercules and Xena! :-D

and we had two austrlian mists! And they were called Tyson (after mike tyson cause he use to suck on your ear) and Kosta (after Kosta Tszyu cause he was small and fast and used to beat up the other cats!).

There have been others but they're my faves! :)

So.... names? Meaning? randomness?

Margo 17-11-2008 02:47 AM

First dog: George, He was a basset Hound. Was there before i was born.
Cat called Bucket. dunno why i called her that.
Rabbit called Luggy. Kinda slang for ears is lug-hole so luggy it was.
Ginipig (how do you spell that word?) called Winston. I liked the name.
rescue dog called Ben. He was so vicious we didnt have time to name him and had to take him back.
Dog called Polly
cat called Raymond! We wanted a really non cat like name and Dallas was HUGE at the time and a character called Ray Cribbs was on it so we names him after that. *him and polly were best friends*
Cat Called Wembley (fraggle rock inspired)
Dog called Harry. He just looked like a Harry.
dog called Spot. Was a pre-destined name in an attempt to bring back proper oldskool dog names.

poor spot. :(

Damnation. 17-11-2008 04:03 AM

I dun think there's any reason behind our dog's name, other than it rhymes with the names of my housemate's previous dogs. She's called Candy, but nicknamed 'Dogzilla'.

It's rather apt, trust me on this

Casper_Fading 17-11-2008 04:10 AM

*giggles* dogzill hey? lmao!

Amaryllis 17-11-2008 04:17 AM

I've got a hamster named Mr. Penguin because he waddles when he walks and so do penguins.

I've got a betta fish named Ghost. He's mostly white, but he's got a few black spots on him.

I've got a frog named Prince and another one named Ass. (You can go kiss the prince or you can kiss my ass. I thought it was hilarious)

And I've got a few other fish that don't have names.

Tears Of Blood 17-11-2008 04:17 AM

Hmm,
We had a Landseer Newfoundland named "Muffin" my grandmother named her and I'm not quite sure of the logic behind that one...she was huge

Black and white DSH named "Cuddles"...the only problem is she wasn't, except with Muffin, blended in perfectly, became a HBC casualty at about 2 or 3 years

Grey/white DSH named "Jake"...I dunno, I was like 8 or 9 so I guess he can count himself lucky he got a "normal" name, he's currently 12ish and doing well

Black, Lab/Husky mix named "Chewy" his former owner chose the name b/c evidently he chewed everything in sight (we never had any problems with him chewing anything but his toys and the odd pop bottle) unfortunately this wonderful fella became an HBC casualty about 3 weeks ago at age 12ish, best dog ever :(

a Black/yellow lab mix named "Buttercup" - this is a BLACK dog lol, more commonly known as "B.C." she's roughly 7ish

A Black and White DLH, appears to be a Main Coon or Maine Coon X , A 5ish year old trapped stray about to be given a swimming lesson until we rescued him, Aptly Named "Sylvester" b/c not only does he look like his namesake he has that "cat that ate the canary" grin most of the time, Gorgeous, mild mannered fella.

"Skittles" and "Mommy" are our latest additions, Two almost identical(Skittles has a black patch on his nose) Dark tiger striped DSH's
9 mo old mother and 3 day old kitten to be given swimming lessons and ended up at our place as well

We're running our own animal shelter lol, can someone please wipe "sucker" off my forehead?? please??

Casper_Fading 17-11-2008 04:20 AM

HBC? DHS? DHL? Explain please!!!! lol

Bwana 17-11-2008 04:44 AM

At my moms house I've got a dog named Lucy and a cat named Desi and used to have a cat named Simon. (Lucy and Desi because I used to love I Love Lucy)
At my apartment my sisters cats are Alex and Evy. (Don't know why she chose those names, but they fit)
My boyfriend used to have a cat named Chaos. (It totally fit her personality)

Amaryllis 17-11-2008 05:06 AM

I think HBC is hit by a car. But I'm not certain.

DSH - domestic short hair

DLH - domestic long hair

Oliviaface 17-11-2008 05:26 AM

I thought DSH meant dashhound.

She barks at anything and everything xD. My housemate has always said that when she goes to the vets, she 'morphs into Dogzilla', and even though I haven't seen her at the vets yet myself, from the way she barks her head off just 'cause of someone walking past the house on the other side of the road, I'm inclined to believe her, lmfao

akita 17-11-2008 07:08 AM

Dog called josh
rabbit called snowflake
guinea pig called ollie
dog called peppe
dog called sophie

Caru y Nos 17-11-2008 07:57 AM

PropheticStar 17-11-2008 08:42 AM

Lets see...

Dog - Jess
Cat - Garfield. Garfield was my big brother. So much so my first words were actually Geegee, for Garfield.
Cat - Flash Not sure why. Probably cause he was quick as a flash. He was a crazy cat. Never ever a lap cat, definately a hunter.
Cat - Dumpy. Cause she was found at the rubbish dump.
Dog - Tarus. Not sure why.
Dog - Shamrock *something something* The T'ird. Not sure why...
Cat - Tom cause he was some stray tomcat that we looked after for a while.
Cat - Mothery or Pushka or Pusspuss. We never did decide on a name for her...
Cat - Mickey. Cause he had big ears when he was a little kitten.
Cat - Frosty. Cause she has white tips on her tail and toes.
Cat - my cat, Anjelica. Or Jelly. Or Jellyfish. Or Fishy.
Fishers lovebirds Samantha and Simone.
um, ****, i dont remember all the budgies names. We had a few buderigars.
Cows - Old Girl, Bully (our bull) Calfy (our steer) Milo... um, i forget all the others names.

I think that was all of them. I have a feeling I'm forgetting some.

Loops 17-11-2008 10:41 AM

I've got 2 cats:
a black n white one with a 'tash' called Dr Evil (he sits and glares at people n looks evil even though he's a big softie).
and his brother a ginger hyper bouncy cat called Doodlebug!
Considered calling them Hitler and Churchill but didn't think the neighbours would appreciate me hollering that out the back..ahem
Love em they're my babies!

Casper_Fading 17-11-2008 11:37 AM

LMAO! Heeeeeeere HITLER!!!!!!!!!! We had two german shephards and I wanted them to be called Satan and Dameon... But no luck for me... boooo :P We called them Murlan and Max. My dad thought calling here Satan and then having a huge german shephard come running up... may have been an issue lol :P

Ooh i forgot we now have my sister's dog living with us. her two were both here but the older one just beat the crap out of the younger one and left him so badly beaten that hes come to live with us here. He has almost as many white scars as me. >.<

He is called Taz. Her idiotic boyfriend called it him and we all hate the name cus hes soo not a Taz. However taz soon became Spaz (faaaar more apt). We dont call him Spaz obviously apart from in the house (well i do), but sometimes my dad gets mixed up when we walk him and has been known to scream "SPAZ COME HERE NOW" in a very loud booming voice, much to my amuzement. Hes also known as Gruntston because he grunts and snorts alot. Tazmund, Tazmundo, spazzy, spazmund, fart arse (jesus he stinks) and what ever else comes to mind at the time....

starnight 17-11-2008 12:50 PM

I have 3 cats now - Tia (because that was on a car number plate that I was following when I was bringing her back from the vet), Smidgen (coz when she was born she was tiny) and Donni (coz that is my pen name).

Just lost another cat called Dilys (because I brought her home from Wales and that was the name of my landlady's mother).

We've had cats called:
Sinbad - because he loved water
Pepsi - because we liked Pepsi cola
Tootleboots - yes! My sister called him that, she was about 3 at the time. But he also went by the names of George, Fred, and Stripes (he was tabby)
Kim - we had her for a couple of years after her elderly owner died
Suki - his previous owners named him before checking whether he was male or female
Pickle - one of a pair that we inherited, the other was called Pepper.
Muppet - she was lovely, well, they all were.

Dogs - Sirius, a lovely German Shepherd
Rufus, a gorgeous Irish Red Setter,
and Tessa, another gorgeous German Shepherd.

And I don't know how to add photos!!!
Aarrgghhhh!!

Loz x

Oh, and I've recently bought Thundercats on DVD, so you're not the only one who likes kids stuff! I also have the Power Puff girls on DVD too! Fab! Just want Codename Kids Next door on DVD too, to go with my Dungeons and Dragons and Dangermouse on DVD too.
L x

Casper_Fading 18-11-2008 02:54 AM

Dangermouse!!!! lol

One of our German Shephards was called ranger, he use to bark when my sister played the lone ranger theme on the recorder (i wish he'd bitten her... she was awful! lol)

We had a cat called Caesar... and he was a true dictator! He beat up every cat and dog in our neighborhood. He eventually died of feline lieukemia :(

We had Turbo, cause he was so fast! Smokey and cocoa (fur colours)

We also had... tissue (he got run over) because he dug a box of tissues out and went to sleep in the box the first day we had him.

Sonic, becasue he use to run through the house and then roll over like sonic the hedgehog...

gosh. There are more! But i can't remember right now!

Margo 18-11-2008 03:21 AM

lol well done ama!

caiden 18-11-2008 09:51 AM

my baby boy (my dog) is named currous dragon. i call him c.d. for short. i got the name from an ancient mythology name. it is a belief (i cant remember from what...chinese, japanese, something anyways) that before a warrior could become a true warrior and become undeafeatable he had to conquer his inner demon first. this inner demon was called the currous dragon. and since my puppy is kinda like my conscience in a way, he helps me fight my inner demons, so i thought i would name him that. to remind me i can conquer my inner demons if i refuse to give up. if i become a warrior for my own cause

Animad 18-11-2008 09:57 AM

I've got 2 dogs and a hamster (for the moment...). They tend to be called any name under the sun. They do have 'official' names which they all (including the hamster) know and respond to but whether they (especially 1 of my dogs) actually get's their real names depends on my mood. I called on of my dogs Sausage the other day (it's not either dogs name) and the other dog ran up to me as she decided I meant her...

This is when you all wonder what they're real names are... if you look hard enough (unless you're staff! In which case if you don't know at least one of my dogs' names you should be shot!)you'll find out... (Blatently don't want to put all their names together for several reasons).

littlelou 18-11-2008 02:52 PM

Animad 18-11-2008 07:06 PM

Yoyo (sorry I don't know your real name), are they Netherland Dwarf's? I think they're great.

Mary Anne 18-11-2008 11:06 PM

My cat is called Fraggle (rescued - the centre had called her Linda - not a good cat name in my book)
Horse (lives with mum) called Morpheus - after the Matrix character - people always think I am really deep and it is after the Greek God, cutely I keep the kids TV shows going as he is known as Morph.

Parents cat I named Moomin (more 80s TV!)- she is well into her 20s now and is also a rescue cat.

In the past I have had cats called: Kizzy, Pudsey, Manuel & Bianca (she came with that name!) plus numerous others I can't think of right now.

Other horses all came named: Sleet (she was white coloured, not sure if this word is used in other countries, it is wet snow) Rusty (rust coloured) Fanta (orange!) Brandy (I was too young to drink!) Storm (poncy name was Waverly Specualtion but is sounded really naff!) Radish (he was reddish coloured) Rosie and Fred (he was my best friend in the whole world, had him from 1 year old, died aged 11 in 2004 - still miss him every day). In case you are wondering I have been riding since I was 3 so have had a lot of time to have this many ponies/horses :)

Rubylou84 19-11-2008 01:21 AM

I have Big cat.... Real name Ziggy she is about 10 and a rescue cat. She was called Sprit at the cat home but i think thats naff
Little Cat is Naboo she is also a rescue cat and Ziggy hates her but they stay away from each other! Naboo is 1 year old and named from the Mighty Boosh it really suits her but i cant explain why!

Then there is Tibbles the corn snake not sure how old she is as shes rescued too! Ive had her for about 3 years and shes nearly 5foot long! My cousin came up with that name

And Lastly Rapheal (sp?) the yellow bellied slider turtle. Rescued the same time as the snake his name obviously is because of teenage ninja turtles
