Yeah so i was thinkin it would be nice to set up a little agency for all us lovely vets to adopt and be adopted by one another.

Could someone please explain a little more to me what this adoption thing means? And RYL-family? And when saying "veteran", do you mean people who've been here for a longer time (like opposite to the newbie adoption thread) or do you mean veterans in 18+ year ol people? Sorry for all the questions, this thing has just confused me ever since I came to RYL...

Livia, adopting someone or being adopted by them means you become part of their own little RYL family. Usually the adopter puts the name and relationship of their adoptee into their signature. The adoptee can also do this in their sig too! The relationship you have can be anything you like from Mom or sister/brother to "favorite sock" or something equally as silly. Having your own family or being part of another family helps strengthen the community feel of RYL and makes you feel a little less "alone".

Usually family members will keep an eye out for each other and check up on each other to make sure they are ok. Your family can be as big or small as you want it to be as long as it fits in your signature!

There is no difference between the Vets adoption and the newbies adoption aside from the fact that it is just a way for the Veterans to look after eachother and get to know each other and bond a little bit. Vets is a little different to the rest of the site in the fact that its regular posters are usually above 18 or the "normal" recognised age of the self harmer (13-21). Alot of Vets will tend to stick mainly to the veterans boards as the issues that are dealt with here are more familiar to them than some that are posted on the other boards. Thats not to say that Vets dont post elsewhere because they DO! But its kind of a little "sub-culture" down here i guess!

By Definition a Veteran is usually someone who is over the age of 18, however you do not need to be over 18 to post here. The issues and topics discussed are aimed at the older members and therefore tend to stear clear of "boyfriend" and "home work" issues for example, and concentrate more on family and uni/work related problems. I guess Vets is a kind of mini version of the rest of the site all rolled into one small package! We have fun and laughter but also tears and pain too.
