Same here!! Shocked me a little too. My TV is really small so I couldn't see to begin with and then was like "OMG!"

Okay i hate that guy who just said that to his mate, :( that upset me a bit what he just said.

Thats true, i think they should actually have warnings. I actually feel really p'd off right now because of what that blokes friend said to him when he found out.

I thought it was very distastefully done.

Majorly triggered!! And it takes a lot to trigger me, even on a bad day!

They haven't handled it well at all. Really don't like how they did it either.

I missed the whole self harm thing (was watching dr who confidential) but they have mentioned self harm before, and I thought it was done well that time.

Ugh, I just watched this (not knowing there was going to be an SI topic) with my parents. My Mum decided to come out with

'What? Only girls do that!'

And when i said no, guys do too, she says

'Right, so he's gay.'

Grrrrr. The stupid thing is i could have used this to talk to my parents about my SI (which they know nothing about) but my Mum saying those things just made me so annoyed.

Anyway. I'm glad Casualty ran this story, i thought it was relatively well done considering they only have one episode to explore a subject like this - i'm glad they made it a male and someone whose job is stereotypically macho.

I thought Caualty Was triggering I am easly triggered though I am glad they ran the story.

im not happy about the way they ran it. i think i could hav been done better.

WOW!!! That was fantastic! I love casualty and I'm really happy they ran this story. Charlie helped the guy in the end and I thought it was well done. Brilliant!!

Towards the end it did get slightly better.

It was a shock to me too. My mam was watching it with me and looked straight at me.
When anything self harm wise is on tv she always goes quiet and looks at me.

i watched it... was rather triggering i thought but i have hidden away everything so cant do anything... it was still kl... i hope Guppy doesn't start on the drugs!

I watched and i didn't know that SH was going to be in it either. Not sure about the way they handled it to be honest. I was very shocked when it came on though.
I feel a bit all over the place. I'm very tired and it's playing on my mind a bit so i'm not really sure if i'm triggered or not.

I've commented about it in the comments bit of their website and said that I thought it was handled very badly and there were many parts that could have been distressing for a lot of people.

I was NOT impressed at this, i've complained once before and now im going to complain again. Ahh to be difficult :P

The concept was a very good one. With it being a guy and all, bringing that to people's attention, when the common misconception is that it's something that only girls do.
His mates reaction did make me angry, BUT, I think that was the whole point of it. That people do think that, and it needs to be corrected in people's minds.
Hum, it didn't trigger me personally, but I can see how it would trigger other people but considering that SI isn't something that is widely spoken about they wouldn't have really considered a warning. That being said they really should've.
Don't think it was handled that badly, although I don't think it was done brilliantly and possibly didn't have the same effect it was intended to have.

And yes, I was watching it with the rents too...How awkward.

I watched it and my parents made me go sit by them so they could hug me i just wanted to run !! and then he started talking about the whole blood thing and my parents were looking at me i was like WHAT??? but what his mate said is what a majority of people say and think i'm glad one programme tackled the issue and what charlie said about it being the hardest thing to admit he had a problem was so true ! But i wished they'd warned people it was going to be about sh!

I can't remember exactly what his mate said, but it was something along the lines of that it was stupid and only teenage girls do it, and that he should grow up.

Maybe someone else can expand/correct that.

It wasn't just his friend, I found the Doctor [Stitch] incredibly offensive although I know that's his character. I thought it was quite a triggering episode, but mostly just because of the negatives attitude. I think there should have been a warning at the start or something at the end.

Darn it, I don't have vrigin media, or infact, anything other than rubbishy freeview.
I have jus thad a possible thought though, my parents were away this weekend, when they get back I will ask if they recorded it. They might've. I hope so. I just hope I don't end up having to watch it WITH them. Ah crap. Bad idea.

To be honest, i'm glad they did it. It was an older pretty tough looking guy and atleast they tried to show people that it can affect ANYONE.

And anything can be triggering, i know they showed cuts but say, when rape or abuse is being discussed, that can be triggering. They can't censor everything.

I watched it after seeing this thread... I thought the whole thing was done ok, to be honest, yeah his mate was an idiot, but some people are.

I hadn't watched Casualty in years... it's really pretty rubbish, just generally.

Watch Grey's Anatomy instead!

Ah, mum and dad DID record it, and I watched it just now, thankfully not with them they decided to go to bed early.
I think they could have covered it a bit more actually, I have no issue with it being dealt with BADLY just, not enough of the programme was dedicated to it I don't think. I liked it though.
Haven't seen it for a while so I would just like to say...GUPPY YOU IDIOT TOUCH IT AND I'LL EAT YOU.

Do you think that people who don't sh or people who just know it exists but don't really know anything about it realise that this kinda thing triggers?...I didn't really think about it till I saw it on the websites. I doubt they realise what it can do...I agree though it could be dangerous.

we should make a petition or something and send it to the bbc. get something sorted out for the people or RYL and all others. it can be triggering for some, and then its to late. x

Did it used to be repeated? Really?! I never knew that, oh the episodes I have missed. Gutted.
I've not watched it much the last year or so, just whenever I was in but the last few weeks I've been getting into it again.

I remember when Guppy first started. Bless. JUST GET SLEEP - that is how not to be tired mate, GOD. I swear if I tune in next week and...well we all know it's gonna happen. Where would the storyline be if he reported it?

To be honest guys - if you are going to expect a trigger warning before shows that are going to show self harm in, especially a hospital show...we should expect trigger warnings before shows where people get drunk to mask the pain, sit in a pub, drive and crash, gunshot - incase someone was in a war once and it scares them....there are only so many things that the bbc and other television networks can warn people about, in that episode you could have had warnings about the amputation of the mans fingers, if you have a mortal fear of drowning, don't watch...I am dragging this out a bit now but you get my point.
I know it can be triggering, and a shock if you aren't expecting it but that's how life is everyday. And this is a hospital programme, where people go in with cuts and grazes and limbs that have been blasted off. I don't think the lack of trigger warning is a problem to be honest.

I thought the episode was good. I don't think it warrented a warning before as it would mean every program would have to do so for drug, drinking, bullying etc etc. When you watch a hosp show you take into thought it is gonna have blood and issues that can hit home.

His mate was a bastard for what he said calling him stupid etc, But that is often the comment. Esp a bouncer. They often see themselves as tough and not the sort to do that so I guess shock for the mate.

Good ole Charlie eh! I love that guy. If only all nurses had his kindness and time etc.

Also if a warning was to be put up it should've covered the drugs and Guppie too.

Over all I thought it was a good one. Using a 'tough guy' rather than a girl or teen. Made it more real.

I never saw it but to be honest I think a trigger warning is a bit silly, you are watching a hospital program, there is going to be blood in it, going to include mental health issues etc etc, every week it is the same, one week it might be a shotgun wound, next week drugs, week after that overdose etc etc, they all have people who they can trigger but its what you expect when you watch a hospital program.

I don't mean to offend any one, but I just think if you can deal with all the other stuff that comes on then it shouldn't matter if they mention that thhere may be some triggering moments due to self harm....sorry just my opinion!
