Charley Bear - a one-time opportunity
 

Most of you will know that a certain Harley Bear has been traveling the world for the past several months (see Sticky in General Chat). He has already visited various parts of the UK, Australia, Dubai and even Oman. His further travels are likely to take perhaps another year and will include an extensive visit to to the United States. He seems to have had a great time so far, as can be seen on the Picture Board.

Meanwhile, his twin brother Charley Bear has been feeling badly left out of things and has been wondering just when it will be his turn for a bit of excitement and for a share of the glamour that Harley Bear has attracted. So to cheer him up, here is his picture to show what a handsome and attractive fellow he is (he and Harley Bear are identical twins).

And, at last, Charley Bear's moment has now come. He's going to be raffled and sent to the lucky winner, wherever in the world, to belong permanently to them. The sale of tickets starts now at and the raffle will close at midnight on Sunday 6th April, UK time. But this is most definitely not a raffle confined solely to the UK; it is open to all our members and we are anticipating an enthusiastic response worldwide.

The draw will be made immediately the raffle closes, under arrangements made by James (who is unbribable!) and the result announced in General Chat straight away. There will be two consolation prizes of wrist-sized versions of the orange and white necklace which goes with Charley Bear, as shown in the picture.

That's correct, no tickets are being physically sent out. I'll be making the draw from our electronic orders using special software which can make coffee, turn the universe on it's head and reverse time itself and or..err....make raffle draws!

Can the winner get a token ticket printed and sent out?

Chloe, we are working initially on the basis of member names. For each ticket you buy one ticket with your member name on it will go into the draw. We do not need you to bother sending us your proper name or address, or anything else apart from payment, at this stage. But obviously we will eventually need names and current addresses of the winner and runners-up to send prizes to. We will call for these when the results are announced on 6th April.

Oh, and for anyone sending coins, please make sure they are well selloed into the envelope.

Why does the RYL shop not have Australian Currency?

I was wondering the same thing Aimee :-D

Me three Kat and Aimee, but i think 1 pound is equal to around $2.50AU. And i have a suggestion, should this moved to a member only forum since only members can buy tickets? Good idea Mr Tony.

I'll speak to Harley about Australian currency but I think he feels he needs to keep the money side of things as simple as possible - hence £GB, $US and Euros. I know that Oz ain't Bongo-Bongoland (any more!) but there has to be a strict limit to the number of different currencies the site has to cope with - and surely $US are readily enough available (you might get more at today's rates).

AUS dollars aren't in the shop basically to avoid the complications in terms of cash payments. It is illegal to send AUS cash out of the country, and making that clear would only confuse things, as well of course as adding more complexity in terms of money coming in, working out prices that work in note form, and all when the banks / payment systems auto convert from any currency you choose to AUS automatically when you pay anyway... it just seemed best to keep things as simple as possible.

So for those in aussyland, I would suggest you choose US dollars - or complain bitterly if you feel I am wrong, and I will consider adding AUS to the currencies RYL supports...but bear in mind I would have to do Canadian dollars too if I did as we get just as many requests for that.

i just have a question, my paypal comes from my bank so takes like 10 days to come out, will this affect it in any way. (its just i know with like ebay they dont send items till the payment goes through)

darkdoom said earlier that she was still awaiting her "orange bracelet" and I invited her to PM me. Nothing heard as yet so I've now PMed her in order to square things up.
But the reason I raise this again here is to emphasise that RYL is not, repeat not, out to cheat anyone or to leave them feeling let down. In the run-up to SIAD we had a serious rush on SIA bracelets and I suppose it's inevitable that the odd order may have gone astray.
If anyone else out there didn't get their bracelet, or anything else they ordered, they have only to let us know and we'll try to put it right straightaway. But if we don't know then we can't do anything - so the message is to speak up and give us a chance to sort things out. We really are here to help ... and I hate the thought of anyone feeling cheated.

sorry i havn't replied due to my disability and having to go into hospital i've not been online. i orderd my bracelet on 18th march paid thro pay pal. will pm harleys dad to try get it sorted out

Oh quickly going off of topic, the 1 month bracelet I ordered was a medium, but the one I have is a small. I know because it has about 4 beads (I think) less then my medium SI awareness one.

Sorry to go off of topic, I saw about bracelets and thought I would quickly mention it...

OK, Field, I'll need a name and address to send to and confirmation of the size you want. Normal bracelets have 26 beads, small have 24 and large 28.

Just bumping this thread to remind people that the draw for the Charley Bear raffle takes place a week from now, so don't miss out. We're not out to screw every last penny out of the Membership but, if we can make a little bit out of this, it'll help us cope with the next crisis with the server (without which [u]nothing[u].)

And, so you know, not any huge numbers of tickets have been sold yet, which means that your chances of winning are a good deal better than on the lottery (though we are of course very grateful to those who've had a go so far}.

I think Harley may be declaring a special "bonus bracelet" for those who buy £5 or more of tickets ...

But I will discuss with James whether we publish a list of those whose tickets are entered before the draw is actually made (guess who'll end up typing it out!)

As I keep trying to emphasise on here, we don't cheat - though being only human we do make the odd mistake ... (which we always try to put right).
