Do 'past' and 'passed' sound different when you say them out loud?
Discuss.
I haven't tried but they Sound different in my head. Does that count??
They sound different in my head too! But no matter how hard I try they keep coming out the same aloud...
Oh no....
Hmmm…. Well, this has made me question everything. I am no longer sure that i am able to read/write/speak/Think english……
Which is a bit unfortunate…. :/ |
English people can't read/write/speak English either ;-)
That's a good point!!! I feel better now.
Thanks NP :) |
THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE NOT VOTING FOR LESBIANS jfc
This is too serious a topic.
:plain:
Just wait 'til Camden gets here. They won't stand for this.

voted for lesbianz of course
hmmm they also sound the same to us but we feel like they should not? |
How is everyone making them sound different aloud?
Tbf Moar Lezbians doesn't Sound anything like passed/past when you say it out loud….
Lindsay…. You’re the only person who voted for them sounding different, apart from Lana who voted for everything like a troll.
Zurg, that made me giggle!! |
Definitely sound different. ‘Passed’ almost sounds like it has a soft ‘r’ in it.
Also, I keep voting for lesbians. When are they going to show up?? I need more lesbians in my life!!!! IS THIS FALSE ADVERTISING???? |
I think it might be something to do with sounded and unsounded letters. Like how b and v have the same tongue movement but one is voiced and one is unvoiced. But I don't really understand elocution just going off something an actor friend and I were chatting about a while back.
I imagine they sound the same if the person isn't good at elocution but a master could make them sound different. I am not a master for instance I pronounce I pronounce think as fink. A fact I think got me rmildly ridiculed at one of my first ryl meets (in a friendly banter kind of way). I voted for confused because they need skill to sound different |
Woahhh big old plot twist- yes and no are now equal!! So pleased that lesbians are winning though =D
Emma - I demand that you send me a voice recording of this alleged difference!! Jen - love the pronunciation-shaming- ‘they need skill to sound different’; as though the no-voters are unskilled :P. Also I presume it was me who roasted you at your first meet so I do apologise as that’s not something I’d do now (I’d roast you for lots of things but not not being able to do the ‘th’ sound!) |
I wasnt trying to roast to be fair just being self deprecating. Forgot I had accidentally insulted other people at the same time XD
I think it was you and also someone else joined in. But don't sweat it. I saw it as friendly banter. |
What if, we are keeping the lesbians away by constantly voting for more?????
That's a dodgy looking link Jenna. Do I need to report you for spam?
Catbug raises a good point!!! We should probably be more advertise friendly towards lesbians. A slogan could be:
Make homosexuality great again!!!! |
Hmm… but then of course that implies that it has been kind of rubbish. Which i am unsure if it has…. I Think lots of peeps might disagree.
We need a new slogan!!! |
I meant to vote that they don't sound different.

I'm half a lesbian. Does that count?
Well no complaints from me, I'm not one of those silly bi-exclusionary type of lesbians. And you and L sound so cute together!
Aww yay! :-D
How long have you been together now Beckie?
Been 3 months since our first date, can't remember when we decided it was official!
That's so exciting Beckie, I'm super pleased for you!
Also yes they definitely sound different! I feel like 'passed' has a longer 'a' sound or something! Also while we're talking about words that sound different. Please reassure me that 'poor', 'paw' and 'pour' sound different. Because they are clearly wildly different words but my husband tells me they are the same and mocks my pronunciation mercilessly  |
They might sound very slightly different to me sloth, but not very!
poor and pour sound the same to me. paw sounds different.
Sloth, they all sound very different to me.
Poor, pour and paw sound the same to me.
this reminds me of the accent tag videos we made years and years ago!
Thank you Lindsay! It must be to do with coming from Scotland, where we pronounce things right
I remember accent tag, Camden! Mine was cringey.
Yes, we definitely pronounce things right in Scotland! Lol! |
With the i before e except after c thing too.
I'm from Lanarkshire. |
Yes those are places in Lanarkshire, although I never really count Glasgow!
I'm from Aberdeen but I live in England now. I do get homesick though!
